OK this is what i have done and what happens.
after down load, It worked, but the window is about half the size of my monitor.this was without my 2 profiles, tried it twice and it worked, replaced profile 001 in( my docs)( profiles,) with my two 001 and 002 profiles
went back into game and it worked, but still with reduced size window, came out and shut down launcher for the first time, reopened launcher, and now the play now button wont work again>

Yeah, it should download all the necessary files required to run the game. However, if you still require additional files just visit the link I sent earlier for 'Tools and Patches'.
Hopefully, once the installation is complete it will work. Let me know

As it is downloading,I notice it also downloads the direct Xfiles as well

Yeah, that's exactly what I was just about to recommend you do.

no , it does nothing, am re-downloading from revive again at the moment

So what happens when you click 'Play Now'?

Does the game start up, load into a server and then crash?
Does it literally do nothing?

Also, when you installed the game via CD, did you download any patches for it via the battlelog website?

No didnt make any difference, play now still wont work

I Have uninstalled all the disc stuff, and down loaded the lot from revive, it let me into game but with a half size window, got in about three times in quick succession.
Took the profile 001 out of the profiles in my docs, and replaced them with mine, and now it wont fire up again,reversed the profiles again, and still wont fire up.

Please answer these questions.

Which operating system do you use?
How have you installed BF2 (CD/Battlelog)?
