I didn't even know about Ventrilo before I joined this community, nevertheless I think it is very good though.

Same here, after using it for quite a while you get accustomed to it and it works correctly.

But I'll just state the facts here ...

Other than the actual LS Members, ClintS is the only registered user who has actually requested a Ventrilo account so far. Other than me and the other two Staff Officers, we can count the other Ventrilo accounts we've made on a couple of hands. (Take note, this doesn't prevent others from joining Ventrilo, it's just a way of avoiding your nickname to be used by others. In other words, we see other folks entering on Ventrilo as well, like owneroffinestC4 for example).

On TeamSpeak on the contrary, you don't need to have an account created. Well actually I don't know because I've never been an Administrator on TeamSpeak; but the point is that out of our current 210 enlisted soldiers, it's scientifically proven at best only 20 of them have Ventrilo, but most likely 90 or even more of them have TeamSpeak installed and configured too.

That's what opens the gates for all of them to come join us on our TS Server; that's what the others are saying. And whilst it's true I disable my Windows 7 themes, Aero and all that graphic shit when I play, 5tarLine knows I prefer TeamSpeak's interface. It's more talkative too; for example others can see if you muted your microphone or your speakers. On Vent you can't see that, and you end up talking to a wall without knowing it. Laugh

I'll state another fact here, which applies to me at least. The more you care about the Community, being the website and the people that are around it, the less you care about how non-standard Ventrilo is or how difficult it is to setup, or how ugly it may look to some or the bugs it has (TS and Vent are not shy of bugs, even if they're a few, there are). You just do it, and grow accustomed to it. In fact, I stopped using Battlelog's TS3 (I also almost stopped playing but oh well Laugh ... ).

For the website integration part, I'm not sure but I always imagined that - being that TS3 is more mainstream - there are already pre-coded widgets or website addons like the one we currently have. I mean I see TS website modules a lot so I figured it was supported by the TeamSpeak Devs directly? Turns out it looks like it's not; perhaps with some harder digging you can find some pre-coded PHP stuff for TS3.

I honestly came into this topic after I saw you replied ready to type "okay I will just accept Ventrilo if both staff officers are in favor" Laugh

I think it's true that the more you care about this community the less problems you have with downloading a whole new program for communication - but that's also the problem: how many players on the servers actually go on this website?

I didn't know battlelog had TS3 too, I guess it's just another argument to switch to TS3.

If it's possible for @5tarline (I'm trying to make this reference's to names work but it never does) it's an option to consider if also Rico agrees.

I'm just curious to see if it will make a positive change yes or no smiling

I'll use both programs in the meantime

I would like to revive this discussion. Many arguments has been stated here already, no need to write them down again. The main point for me is that Teamspeak3 is simply more popular, especially in Bf2. Every Bf2 community uses TS3. Very few people will install ventrilo just to communicate with us, teamspeak is simply more accepted.

Not that I'm a standard player, but when I first joined this website I saw the 10-step process to download Ventrilo and I was like.. Yeah I'll stick to TS3 Laugh I know it's not that hard, but at first it looked pretty complicated. Maybe it's easier to use a program a lot of players already have and convince them to just join our server instead of downloading a new program.

I just think that switching to TS would bring a lot more people to talk to each other.

We can have a 32 slot server for free.

Since b29az / Kissmygun, who both voted for ventrilo, doesn't play for LS any longer, we should reconsider our primary voice programm, maybe by a community vote?

We will be creating a private poll for our Members only, to see what they would prefer to go with in 2019 - a new year for the Lost-Soldiers BF2 Community - as they will be the ones expected to support our voice server the most. The Staff Officers will then vote upon seeing the result at hand.

We have a few options to pick from, we will be asking every Member to submit their vote in the poll. The general discussion about Ventrilo vs TeamSpeak will be always held here, in this board; discussion solely about the poll's options will be held in the reserved topic that will be created later.

Kind regards,
