That is why actually Englishmen make more grammar mistakes than foreigners, because they were never taught proper English grammar!  You said it yourself! My teacher taught me that line; perhaps to make us study harder.

I just used to read a shit-load of books when i was younger to learn good English. Of course, we did learn English at school and were corrected when we made mistakes but never had specific grammar-lessons.
