Did you already try to launch the game in windowed mode?

As Dillman states, try launching the game in safe mode at 800x600 resolution.
This is most people issue, with crash at startup, as newer computers don't have 800x600 resolution natively added anymore.
You will need to manually add 800x600 resolution because this is the games default resolution to start in.
If you do in fact get an unknown 800x600 resolution error, here is how to work around it.

How to play BF2 in windowed mode?

In the BF"Hub-Client click on the tab "Launcher".
Check Safe Mode / Window Mode there and give it a try.
