Crash on changing video settings?

I just downloaded and installed the game. The fist thing I want to address is the video settings, as 600x800 is a more oldschool than needed.
Either the settings is too high or changing the resolution to 1080p, both left me with a crashed battlefield: the game leaves me with a black screen in the upper left corner. I still hear the menu theme on the background, is there any way I could fix this?
Kind regards,

Hi,
800x600 is just the "fallback".
Did you try running it in "windowed mode"? Add "+fullscreen 0" to the shortcut
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +restart 1"

I followed your suggestion, and my game indeed starts as a window; but a small one I'm guessing 800x600 size.
When I try to change the ingame setting than the menu till is the same size and the extra window size is filled with black, also it seems to freeze.
Music still plays in the background.

Update: for anyone with the same problem: it seems running in compatibility mode for windows XP SP3 seems to work. Also I enabled running it as a admin prior to this change; so it might me a combination of the two.
Very nice. I will try to get a buddy (or perhaps a few buddys) to join aswell.
At least I know what I will be doing tonight.

You can force the Game to launch in Size.
Add f.e. "+szx 1980 +szy 1800" to the Shortcut to run in 1980x1800.
Try it with lower Size that fit your Monitor-Resolution
