So my PC is getting on in years now and every time it boots or i sit down to do something i think "this bitch is sloooow, i Need a new one"
and then my next thought is "nah, so much Money just for a bit of typing, playing my music and playing games, i spend way too much time on it as it is, i need to spend some time with the family, go for a walk, get out and see shit".

And that is the way it goes every time, good angel on one shoulder, bad angel on the other, should i ? shouldn't i ? i know i want to but then i would have a guilty conscience.

and then because my ram had too many bad blocks to make a ram disk for the big windows june update i went online to get me some new DDR3 (old as the hills now but no cheaper!)
by Alternate and then, because my plan for my new PC (dreaming is free) is to get a bitchin SSD for windows but still can't chose between mSATA, U2, M2 or pci express (does the increase in speed justify the price ?) i saw the comparatively low prices of the SATA SSD.

And got me one.

I had a software on my pc to clone the C drive and downloaded a freeware for the same purpose just to try it out but ended up doing a clean install because i didn't want to clone all the shit i had installed since last time.
and am very pleased with it, boot time has more than halved, opening an app (well that's what win10 calls them now) takes just a few seconds, and with my 4 new ram chips i am ready for the next 10 years.

I just had a thought and am just gonna put it out there before i Google it.

Could i put 2 SATA SSD's in raid to get double the Speed ?

the reading time is faster because the Information is shared between 2 drives, it works with normal drives, when i built this PC i started with 2 drives in raid 0

one drive does not operate faster but two drives giving the same information (or the other half) are faster than one, although "double the speed" was maybe an exaggeration on my part ;-)

But when you get rid of one bottleneck you just move on to the next one.

When building a PC you have to consider several things.
You talk about bottlenecks, but the bottlenecks are hardware that is alot slower than the rest of your hardware.
There is little to gain on having a super graphiccard if your bus, disk is slow, or you have som other slow hardware. Its always the slowest hardware that dicide the speed of the computer.

Setting up a RAID to get faster readrate, you use RAID 1. You double the readspeed but the same writespeed. You also only get 50% storage space on the disks.
The speed you need to play BF2 with every setting on full is something a cheap laptop today can handle.

A bottleneck can be any component or even a configuration/setting that prevents the other hardware from running at full capacity. A motherboard/ram/cpu component or setting that is not up to spec could lead to reduced performance of your "system". However, if your weakest component is your graphics card for example then you are only going to notice this bottleneck when gaming/rendering or whatever - the rest of the system will not be affected by that.

Also Raid 1 is mirroring which does not increase performance, it just backs up your data but you lose 50% of your total drive capacity in order to do so. Raid 0 (striping) increases performance but there's no point in using Raid 0 with the latest SSD's, you won't notice increased performance, in fact it can actually be detrimental.

The M.2 intel H10 SSD which i had (and broke) had 2 components on it, 1TB of "normal" SSD and 32GB of "optane" memory, fancy RAM essentially. And that had to be set up in RAID mode. Just an interesting fact.

I found out though after my question about SSD's that my thoughts had been overtaken by technology.
I was thinking about combining 2 SSD's to make them a bit faster but an M.2 costs less than 2 SSD's and is 4 times as fast. Duh.

I stopped buying PC mags cos it was always the same old shit, guess i was wrong.

PC mags? I stopped buying them when I was 16, I only purchased them because they came with CDs with free games and demos and often times ... naked women. ahah

You get that in PC mags?? I don't think they'd do that here in Australia, though I've never bought a PC mag or really looked through one.
