Hello, Thank you for welcoming me. My nickname is cataly63 and all started for me, when around the age of 45, (what ?........ Lol), I discovered the universe of FPS: first, free games like Wolfenstein, if you see: then, Battlefield 1942 which I did not play much, but which I found already very promising: and then, after this first experience, there was the masterful slap of the extraordinary Battlefield 2, the second opus of the franchise that literally engulfed me, until today ; ten years of real addiction: everything I had wanted to see in a war game was there: it was fantastic, probably because it reminded me of the little war games of my childhood among friends: yes, I know, It seems silly, says like this: I must admit that I did not become the best player, despite years spent on different servers; But, no matter, we're here to have fun, right? I also spent a lot of time with the game editor, Bfeditor: create maps from satellite images, found on different type of geoportal: model navmesh under photoshop, modify differents characteristics of the game, etc, etc; but, no, it's not really the place to develop this,i think...sorry Otherwise, for a few months I have been using the two servers on the David site (thank you David for everything you do for the community; really much appreciated), I see that I have already met some of you. (Kassendra and his helicopter, there I quickly become Medic and often it is not enough, lol) If you are looking for a loyal team member, and who has the sense of group ... .not looking for more. But, if you want to have a little idea of the maps, I put, some videos, on youtube under the name of John Telicks; No planes in these: it was just for friends who wanted to see the "mountain" effect: with airplanes and airport, the mountain aspect gives an extra dimension that we almost have not in the Bf2 vanilla ! Much more tactical! Thanks for the compliment, Josto! Imagine that this map is, in the real live, my place for holiday, in Italy! I have a part of my family that lives on the other side of the mountain, and that's where I'm going to relax every summer! The idea of modeling the valley for Bf2 came to me because this place was the theater of very strong fighting during the ww1, between Italians and Austrian: to tell you, in the bottom of our garden, there is a Casemate, completely destroyed by the shells fired by the artillery, located on the other slope, where you see my bots at work! But hey, I'm not going to tell you the whole story ....... too long! Unless you like .. Hi guys, For the release, it was never planned:  with this test, I just wanted to see how much, it was possible to develop a large map from a satellite map with our old Bf2 game engine: but, if you like it, certainly, I could Adapt it to transform it to be a playable map; But clearly, it represent a lot of work if i want something better finished: for example you would have to install the surrounding terrains, reviewing the positioning of the flags to prevent the pilot bots from crashing into the mountainsides, installing objects for airports...... etc, etc, etc! Nice job Cataly123 - it really looks incredible and i want to fly on these realistic map! I'd say, don't worry too much about Bots. Many thanks for your trust But in order to achieve this goal, I still have to reach an visually acceptable and playable map: in these huges dimensions, we always encounter problems: not so much with bfeditor, but with the translation of the data into the game : All because DICE created its editor only for maximum 2K maps: here, we are in 4k with 12K secondary terrain ; So, far, far from what was expected! Tonight, I finally have a functional map, and fairly balanced visually, although i had to make many compromises: tomorrow I start the gameplay part, which is much more fun: still a little patience !! You will think i'm curious but,... how many bots are you using, Princess ?but maybe you're not used to it: when you're squad leader, it's you who open the game; do not listen too much to your commander at the beginning, and take your squad where you want it: if you give orders to the bots, sometimes they follow you, sometimes they follow the orders of the commanders; there are some subtleties to discover with the AI. Make a Squad. Bots will probably join it - otherwise invite xy to your squad. Then give the squad commands like "follow me! (mir nach!)" etc. The bots will follow an unicorn. |

hey Dill, for the heli, in the improved mountain map, there is an apache imported from xpack: ...appears in the video but not planned for download... About bots, Refractor 2 engine accepts, at most, 9 squads for each team, therefore 108 bots, which are correctly managed by the AI; beyond this number, the surplus bots do not receive any order from the commander! Wow, the map looks very realistic and funny to play on infantry as well as on land and air vehicles. The new voice overs make it all the more immersive and I quite like the out of bounds warning: better than the vanilla one. Glad you like it, Francesco ! but, ooooh sorry, for the poor quality of Youtube videos: just, to try to remedy this, I made an upload attempt on Vimeo; and, yes, the quality seems infinitely better; so, i propose to watch, again, the second video, if you have the time! and, yes, the future map will contain a lot of very different gameplay ; but, as far as the voices are concerned, I do not think that I will be able to integrate them in the final map: the sound files are always problematic: in principle, it should go through a real mod: not a map: and, my idea is only to create maps for Bf2 vanilla; so, more people can play it easily: after that, the modders will, surely, do what they want, as always! next week there will be a third video; showing part of the map, invisible so far! all this, just to distract you: I realize that I'm on a forum for online gaming, and with my solo maps, I'm like a hair in the soup, as they say here in Belgium : I only hope that it does not bother anyone: otherwise, tell me!
