HardwareToo fast for BF2 ?

13.11.2019, 17:48 - McSlaine - Corporal - 326 Posts
I just read in "Ban Appeals" that someone was having problems with BF2 (probably) because his SSD was loading the maps too quickly.
I also have an SSD as my system disk and have had no problems til now.
BUT
i'm going to get myself one of these M.2's and was wondering if anyone has any sort of M.2 as system disk and if it works okay with BF2. https://www.alternate....ive/html/product/1545172?

Samsung 970 evo would be my second choice.

Hello McSlaine,

that is a very good question, but as you have read in my latest reply you have a couple of options to chose from, were you to suffer from "modified content kicks" due to fast loading times.

That being said I have an SSD by Kingston myself [Kingston SSD A400] and I do not have this problem on our own rotation servers, perhaps it has to do with some specific server setting about delay times? (there's at least 3 delay parameters that you can configure)

Finally for your information at the end of the discussion this thread will be moved in this Forum board:

I plan to go big time PC parts shopping and am going to get a mobo with 2x M.2 slots and on one will be my system disk.
The one i want is from intel and has a read time of 2300 mb/s, the Samsung's read time is 3500 but the intel one is practically just as fast
I suppose my question should have been:-
Has anyone had problems with BF2 on any sort of SSD's ? if so, what were/is the read speed.
@ Shark, Thanks for the advice but i am hoping it won't come to that.
If so i'll just get my old AOL dial up modem out of the cellar and use that.

Yeah, so i did it, i ordered that intel M.2 and some other stuff to go with it so i will let you lot know how it goes with BF2 and fast SSD's

btw, have you seen this ?
https://www.alternate....ive/html/product/1592356?

5000mb/s read speed!
as yet only mainboards for AMD Ryzen have PCIe 4.0 to fully support it.
I almost changed my faith and converted to AMD so i could get one.
(well i still could and run it on PCIe3.0, but what's the point)

probably at some time in the not too distant future the partnership between Intel and AMD is going to overtake Nvidia and leave them stumbling an coughing in the dust.
But not yet.

I am having issues with a San Disk Ultra 2 480 GB formatted. alt-tabbing does seem to pause map loading but going back 10-20 seconds later still get same kick. Will try without using BF2 hub which I thought I needed to see the multiplayer.

You only need it during installation time, to patch your BF2 executable in order to connect to their login and master servers; other than that you don't actually need it to run either, so you can disable it at startup. But I doubt it has to do with that. Discussion continues here, in this thread we will stick to posting the brand and model of SSDs that might (or might not) give problems during BF2 maploads (eg. getting kicked for content modifications).

BF2 complete installation downloaded, and installed.
Joined a game on oman with no controlls set up and ran round like a headless chicken til end of map.
next game started without any problem.
Went on veh rotation, waited til next map and it loaded and i played no problem.

The story so far:-
my new pc was not finding my 3x 3.5 hdd's from my old pc, i thought it was a setup problem in the UEFI bios.
There are a SHITLOAD of options to tryout and change.
one of the options turns on and off the optane memory side of the intel M.2 SSD and reverts all drives to AHCI.
so i did that.
And totaly, irreparably fucked the intel M.2 SSD.
Phoned up intel support and they said "those are not for sale individualy, only for complete PC's, you shouldn't have one"
and were not really helpfull.
So i said it wasn't working properly and sent it back to the retailer, now i have windows and thus BF2 on a Samsung 970 evo M.2, 3500 read speed.
Works a treat.
I got hung up on Far Cry new dawn (bloody good) for a long time and just got round to re-installing BF2 this week and as yet have had no problems.
So i would postulate that the "too fast to load new maps" problem lies elsewhere.

P.S.
My new Thermaltake power supply must have had a power surge because all 3 of the boards on my HDD's have been burned out, thats why they were not appearing in BIOS :-(
I swore a lot.
