Battlefield 2 • Installed MountainsDogfight1 but it still says I don't have it?

Hey there everyone,

I have correctly unpacked the map into this path C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels\MountainsDogfight1 (same name as the map so it should be good), but it stil shows up in red in my server browser!

I have downloaded the map a few days ago from our downloads here. Let me know, I am pretty sure I can install a custom map correctly. Laugh

My directory contains the following files: MountainsDogfight1.bmp, battlefield_2_icon.ico, client.zip, read me before.txt, server.zip.
Please let me know; I would love to try this map out as I have stated previously.

No I actually lack the two folders! Did you download the exe or the zip/rar that cataly initially provided? I have the latest executable, has somebody ran into this issue with the exe version?

I am positive that I used the .exe version because that's the only version showing in my 'Downloads' area.

I also downloaded the map from the downloads page which you linked as 'here' in your initial post, then clicked the green link titled, "Download MountainDogFight1 now"

Hmmm ... So basically somehow I am missing two folders? How could that be?? O.o Maybe I can try to get the other (old) download from cataly's introduction thread and unpack it.

Otherwise I'll have to ask you to upload those two folders for me. Somehow I feel they are very light.

That's pretty strange though, I wouldn't want the exe to be faulty.

5tarLine / cataly63 did you use the latest exe too to install the custom map?

I have solved it by unzipping the folders MitchS66 had uploaded; I don't know why but I lacked them.

I had installed the map with the exe that you can download from our downloads page, here.

Italy S_h_a_r_k_93 -> Did you pick the right install location, the .exe is set to the default one and won't locate your install directory from the registry asfaik.

Of course I did; see post #1. The exe does not pick up your OS architecture so I noticed the path was wrong for me. I have a 64 bit Computer thus BF2 is installed here: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2.

The exe instead wanted to create this folder ...
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels\MountainsDogfight1

It's really weird because Mitch claims he has used the exe as well. Maybe Mitch has a 32 bit OS?

But from where? From the rar cataly63 initially delivered? I think the exe he's hosting on ModDB is the same we're downloading; I didn't go through the MD5 signature but I guess they're the same.

I can try to reinstall the map cataly if you really want to, through the exe that I have downloaded. Actually, I have another Laptop at home (always 64 bit) when the actual file I've downloaded resides. On that Laptop I have BF2 installed just like on my Laptop. I will try to install the map in safe mode so the AntiVirus does not interfere.

I will edit this post with the outcome of the installation on the other PC.

EDIT: Turns out the installation went well on the other PC, in normal boot too. I have tried leaving the default (wrong) path as well as changing it through Browse and by editing the path with the caret ... went well everytime (it created files and folders). The file is actually the one I have used on my PC, so I don't know what went wrong here folks. :'D

- Map is hella big,
- No spawn points near jets??
- Is it high-poly? It looks like it's intense for my GPU,
- While in third person view I get black spots on terrain, while in first person I don't.

Ah ah ! You did well to redirect me to your link: before yesterday, in answering you, I did not see that you had already given your impressions: now, I will try to answer your questions:

extract from the "read me"

"...In the solo mode, you have access only to fighter planes: in the coop mode, you have access to the planes but also to two of the helicopters: in the conquest mode , you have, of course, access to all the vehicles: For a good balance, there are at disposal, 10 helicopters and 12 planes, which allows almost to about thirty players / bots...."

In fact, in the conquest mode, the spawn is done in a random manner: sometimes in a helicopter, sometimes, next to an airplane: this is due to the fact that, for a control point, the respawn locations are very distant One of the other: if I had known that one day the map would be hosted here, I would have modified this kind of detail; now, It's too late !

High-poly ? no; In general, it is rather the objects that eat GPU: but here, there is almost none: with my old i5760 and gpu amd radeon hd 5570, i have no FPS slowdown: maybe you lack memory, or too many bots, in solo or coop mode?

For the blackspots, It is an old problem, typical of 1024x4 maps: and never completely solved by the Bfeditor masters: the dynamic shadows are horrible: the only solution is to disable them in the video options:

the price to pay for so huge maps...smile

Did you try the map with bots ?
I ask, because there are rarely online players,......for the moment

No I did not play the map with the bots; so far only online, and I don't think the FPS were actually dropping, Maybe my Laptop is overheating either way; it may explode in some weeks. Laugh ahah

So, if I join the Server I will spawn in a random place?
Because there is only one selectable spawn point ...
