I create this topic to discuss the SF-Server coming soon.
There are some questions:

1) How many rounds should be played on one Map?
-Map change after every round (that is what I favor)
or
-Teamswitch after one round and map change after two rounds?

2) Which maps should be in the rotation?
The following Maps available:

-Ghost town
-Warlord
-Iron gator
-Leviathan
-Surge
-Mass destruction
-Devil's perch
-Night flight

Personally I like all maps except Devil's perch, especially Warlord, Ghost town and Iron gator. I suggest the following map order, to ensure a maximum of diversion between the rounds:

1) Iron gator
2) Night flight
3) Ghost town
4) Leviathan
5) Mass destruction
6) Warlord
7) Surge

I'd go for "-Teamswitch after one round and map change after two rounds".
For the map rotation, it looks good to me. I didn't play SF that much either (mainly cause I don't have time to play the regular game either, but also because the only populated - and Ranked - Server was in US and the latency made in unplayable for me).

Let's also discuss some changes and give feedback, in this thread. I have thrown in all the maps, two rounds per map, time limit 30 minutes, 16 Players maps / Player cap. The idea, for the moment, is to have a small CQC Server to be toyed with, filled, promoted, get it going, growing.

Once it's filled all the time, I plan to bump it up to 24 Players, I think I'll have to push the map size to 32 at that point too. But I'm open to feedback; my idea for the moment is taking the slow start approach, get popular, increase the size, rock hard eventually. smile

Oh yeah switch teams was disabled yesterday! I have enabled it now; there were more options that seemed to be different from the other Servers but I've checked them all on BF2CC now and it seems they match the regular BF2 Servers we have. VOIP should also be working? I still don't use it. :'D

I've bumped the map size to 32 and the Player cap to 24!
Time limit has been pushed to 60 minutes too.

Netherlands Rico946 mentioned to me that he believes we should stick to a 64-Player SF Server because most who play SF want to play with all the vehicles., and i tend to agree. Thoughts?

I haven't played in the Special Forces Server recently (I also reiterate our blind promotion here by placing a reply during weekends, plis ^_^ not everybody at the same time, leave some space between your replies), but if within the 32 size you'll find an Helicopter within the maps, for me the size is fine like that.

I agree with rico and 5tarLine. Most of the sf maps are not that big even in 64 map size. All the battlelog players are used to play with that size

Well, let's put it like this: ours is the only 32 size Ranked SF Server at this point in time. Right now, there are two other EU Ranked Servers, 64 size. They're empty, ours is 20/24 right now and has been going up and down all day.

In my opinion we can build this Server both by having a group of dedicated SF Players kickstarting the matches, as well as having the map size / player cap follow the popularity of the Server: when there's demand for it, it means we're popular ⇨ increase the map size.

With smaller sizes that's true, you don't have the full playground to play with, but starting a Server is much easier and keeping it full, desirable, is easier I think. Eventually I have also asked for feedback on battlelog.co, regarding this size debate; I hope some battlelog.co Forumers will engage the discussion.

We will see, I am open to changes, I just want to discuss them properly, think them through.

The SF Server has been active all day, performing really well overall. For much of the day it was around half full and currently nearly full, good job.

Yeah, it's time for an increase. Next on the line is an increase of map size as well, but I still need feedback over battlelog.co's thread. I've gotten a couple of opinions from Players and one told me it's balanced like this, 32 size. There are some helicopters on some of the maps.

Let's leave it like this for the moment, see if the additional 8 slots get used or not. smiling

with 64 players you'll need 4 players to join you, I think. But even if you needed just 2, how do you imagine a 2 vs 2 fight on a 64 players map would be? I'll tell you what, boring! Is that what you guys want? :o

Some maps are not that big even in 64 player size, at least not compareable to the vanilla BF2 maps. Moreover the difference between 32 and 64 is small for most maps. All SF players are used to the 64 map size since battlelog only provides that map size.

The problem we have is that only a few people of our team plays SF very active. We could easily fill up the server when we would get 4-6 players of our team together.

dsghsdf is a very experienced and regularly active SF player. I think we should consider his suggestion and give it a try.

4 players to start the game sux but its same on the other servers, no disadvantage for you.
64 maps have more flags and vehicles = more options to take flag and keep game going.
and 2vs2 can be just as lame on 64, 32 or 16.
its players choice if they want to fight with vehicle and commander or just walk around and try funny stuff.
somebody just needs to join 1 sf server and more people will join, works like that since first bl sf server.

In my personal opinion I would assume that would be abusing some for of in-game glitch to gain an unfair advantage. However, as I have not played too much of Special Forces I believe that other users would have something more to add to this than myself. However, I believe that the Senior LS Admins may have something important to say about this.

No dsghsdf, as you have reported it here in more detail, capping flags through the helicopter is still considered a glitch; and we usually ban them if they ignore our warnings and keep glitching exploiting the glitch. Other admins may ban a glitcher on sight.

Regarding the other nuisances, well, that's BF2 for you! amused Those are bugs within the game, if they're still present I will try to reboot the Server. Let me know, and thank you for your inputs so far.

the "glitch" is kind of borderline since its still possible to kill him.
but rounds are over quick and boring if mecs do it.
and i dont know if the squadbug will fix itself, i assumed it needs a restart.
i never hosted a bf2 server and we had no squads in bf42 tongue

hi guys,
could somebody set an idlemap? i think it would be easier to get players with more popular maps like ghosttown or warlord as starter.
maybe setup a mapcycle like this

Warlord - gets the easteuros on the server(timezone), no helis
Ghost Town - small map, all types of vehicles, can be played inf only too, popular
Night Flight - inf/light vehicle night map
Iron Gator - fight inside carrier
Mass Destruction
Devils Perch
Surge
Leviathan

the other maps are good too, people join them but they can be serverkillers too.
MD has no mainbase and if RU gets 2 hinds then its mostly just massacre for rebels, spawnrape at last flag.
DP and Levi can be serverkiller and lots of empty servers get stuck on them.
Surge is good map imo, all vehicles, maybe helps to keep server going between DP and Levi.

maybe test for some days, make some changes like switch GT-WL, Surge - MD, NF - IG, DP - Levi and see what happens.
or run GT, WL and ... a 2nd time after DP.

and/or could you set the playernumber required to start a mapvote to 2? now its 8 or 10.
with lower setting people could switch from serverkiller, just a handfull of players on Levi is no fun and they cant change map now, so they all leave.
3 empty servers are stuck on Devils Perch right now and the only way to change map is to idle and wait for 2 or more players to take all flags

No, I am afraid that it's hard-coded in the server binary files;
we can't change that logic unless we dig into the binary code I guess.

EDIT: Actually there's a setting called "Minimum Players for Voting" and it's currently set to 12, but I don't know if it's for kicks or map votings, or both. I have lowered it to 4, let me know if you notice any changes please!!! (on BF2CC it says minimum number of votes for a poll to be successful ).

Please explain what a "idlemap" is; I understood your statements but I did not quite understand what an idlemap is. I mean, it looks like you want to eliminate idlemaps from the rotation! (so that the Server wouldn't be killed).

@everyone please discuss what dsghsdf said and let me know your thoughts! Instead of creating a map rotation from zero - which is harder - let's try to work our way from the one we have now ... make small adjustments here and there, test them ... babysteps.

Minimum Players for Voting

that should be the setting. vote for mutiny, mapvote, kickvote. thanks i will test it.

idlemap: map #1 in mapcycle, quasi. the server idles on that map until players join and start the game, if server goes empty it switches back to that map.
i dont want to eliminate/take out maps, all are good for some fun, but some attract more players then others.
sf servers often get stuck empty on unpopular map in the evening and players have to continue on them later/the next day, if there is no serverrestart.
three popular sf servers were stuck on devils perch 3 days ago f.e. today just one, not yours.

mapcycle now

- Devils Perch - killer
- Ghost Town - poular
- Iron Gator - popular (or not, noobs get confused inside carrier an raped by heli outside)
- Leviathan - killer
- Mass Destruction - medium
- Night Flight - medium
- Surge - medium (big map, problem for the "too much walking"-guys..)
- Warlord - popular


my mapcycle example

Warlord - pop
Ghost Town - pop
Night Flight - med
Iron Gator - pop
Mass Destruction - med
Devils Perch - kill
Surge - med
Leviathan - kill

it depends at what times the maps get played too.
usually its every map once per evening/night, sometimes few more maps.

other ideas to get/keep players on your server;
set the number required to start game to 1 and make all unlock weapons available to low-ranks.
those were requirments for ranking, right? well... you know..
maybe some care less about points if they have all unlocks and keep playing on server with rules and admins.

I could be wrong though, as this is just a theory I haven't tested myself.

I don't think this will be necessary. Will it help if a server gets stuck? The first player will have to idle anyways because there are no opponents; the timer will go on and eventually the map might change ... but what if it's a good map and it then changes to a worse map?

I have to think about this ... I want to discuss this with @everyone. It is true that we are not Ranked any longer so part of what you say is correct; but I don't know if I am comfortable to push this setting to the Special Forces server only.

yes you are right and no im not sure about it. i know that settings from bf42 and thought i have seen it on bf2 servers.
now it works like you are saying, with idlemap the server would change to that map. start mapcycle again, with unpopular maps at the end.
i would be suprised if that setting is gone but then again its bf2...

yes you are right again. but the 1 player could take flags, spawn vehicles. keeps him occupied and on the server.

imagine 1 (more) player using commander and teams not fighting flag by flag, thats what usually happens.


you use bf2cc, right? wich version?
i did some research and the only thing about bf2 idlemaps i found was some site thats only accessible through webarchives to me.

Only 4, no matter how many people are in the server? I thought it was related to how many players were playing. In fact I don't want the polls to be abused ... that's why I brought it up to 6 now. How does it work?

Yeah it appears that your statement about the idle map is not so true after all. We use the last version available for BF2CC and there is no option or flag to set a map as 'idlemap'. Yesterday we finished playing on Devils Perch, right? This late morning the map was Ghost Town, the next in the rotation. Then in the early afternoon the map was Iron Gator (the next after Ghost Town) and the match was in idle mode too. Now the map is the next one again, Leviathan, and I bet if you join it's in idle mode (id est pre-game) again.

But anyways I am keen on making changes on the rotation given your thoughts about the map; I'd like more folks to discuss about the map rotation. Unfortunately some LS Members that fancy Special Forces are busy with their IRL duties so they can't participate to this discussion. I am also interested in the commander discussion ... when there's few players, a good commander can really make the match different and make it hell for the enemy team (if it's a smart commander).

For example the last night when we were playing, we were on Mass Destruction and we had a commander, your team didn't. This meant we had a huge advantage. I tried to search for ways to restrict the commander usage under a certain threshold of players but I couln't find it within our configurations nor on google. So if you know or are able to get how T-Gamer is enforcing this limitation let me know; I may think about it.

Finally with your map cycle you're stacking all the medium/unpopular maps at the end. So doesn't this mean the server will get killed anyways when Devils Perch starts?

its a pity, usefull setting gone. it helped to get servers going with good/smaller maps in the beginning and big maps later.
or setup chronologic cycle from 39-45 in a ww2 mod.
and yes my sf mapcycle doesnt make much sense without it.

without idlemap i would say make sure 3 maps run bewteen them but try to keep warlord and ghosttown together.
or keep Levi and Perch together?
if server is dead its dead. if people want to play those maps they can join and play.
if they want to vote they can skip both and keep going for another 6 maps.
i dont know.. maybe depends on vote setting.

no, you need 4 players on server to start a kick or mapvote and 4 players in team to start mutiny. maybe 4+1commander, not sure.
the ammount of players needed to make votes succesfull is some other setting, looks like 60 or 70% ingame, ok imo.

there are many votes but i dont think its abuse/ just for fun votes.
often mapvotes just fail with just 1 or 2 votes missing, then 2 people disconnect and the other 5 cant skip Perch because votes disabled, server dead with 5 potential players.

some try but fail, if they get annoying they get kickvoted themself, with success.

with setting 2 the players would have abit of control over the server.
2 guys can vote the map they want to play on, idle on better map, or practice something
or kickvote the 3rd guy wallhacker
or mutiny the spamcommander in a 3 vs 2 no-rank noobs

red dot hunting.. kids dont play hide and seek anymore?
back in the day one guy had to spot the enemy with binoculars and another aim artygun, and no points for the spotter!!

Ahah. Well okay that I misunderstood what the minimum players required was about; I am putting it back to 4.

Based on your suggestion I will also alter the server messages to let people know that they can start a map vote with only 4 people; hopefully more and more will learn about it and when a killer map starts - if people don't really want to play it at all - they'll be able to skip it. How does that sound?

i think i also found a script that kicks commanders, i like it but probably a bit harsh tongue


as you said, commander makes teams (more) uneven and imo its just lame to use it with just few players on rather small map.
i realize its part of bf2 and it can be fun and exciting to have 2 teams fighting with commanders but thats rare in sf, lack of players.
most of the times its just teamstacking and noob hunting/spawncamping or they (try) to ues it for themself only.
no commander boosts teamplay over time.

imo, it was one of the reasons why sf got only 30 players max in the beginning of BL.
lots of different people joined sf, full 64 server could have been possible but most didnt stay long because of teamstacking and getting camped by commander+friends in mainbase.
the playercount dropped, gameplay became "normal", new people joined and it startet again.

without commander,noobs have better chance to sneak past better players to get a flag, suprise attacks etc
the problem i see with no-commander is that if all flags are taken, the last guy alive could just hide forever, others cant find him, get bored, leave server.

Well yeah that is true; there are some pros and cons about making this decision.

Let's just say that the BF2 AUTOADMIN has received a finer tuning over time whilst the SF AUTOADMIN I believe is still stock, default release. If you noted down some bugs let us know in greater detail, we'll see if we can work them out or not.

ah ok, it didnt seem to detect fighting commanders yesterday for example.
maybe ghost towns antibaserape-zone is too big, people get warned when they drive with boat from waterflags to bridges.
people dont get kicked often that way but maybe abit annoying for some.
autoadmin works good for the most part i think.

Well, it's definitely not the 'stock, default release' because as you'll see on Servers like Super@ and anyone else running it, that version doesn't work at all anymore Laugh. Our AutoAdmin has been developed a lot more since that version but as the SF Server was never originally planned and we haven't had it online for that long really the AutoAdmin has not been empirically tested at all for SF by us and has had no special attention / fine-tuning yet.

Some features of Auto-Admin will never be 100% perfect all of the time. Partly because BF2's Codebase is far from perfect and partly because it's nearly impossible to code for every possible occurrence / eventuality that can occur in-game, you can just try to cover most of them / the main ones.

For the record, if you are wondering why AutoAdmin didn't pick something up you expected it to regarding Commander's here are the current settings in place for the SF Server:

could you check the soldier, jeep, armor box under "forbid commander to kill with", please.
always some cnut using it with just a handfull of players, boring gameplay.
same people stack teams, spawnkill at last flag or try to baserape.

Well that's a bit of an overkill for commanders I guess. :'D Maybe armor, ok, but if we are going to prevent them to kill from jeep and weapons too I'd rather disable commander under a certain threshold of players.

Regarding team stacking and attempted baseraping, the former is within the players to change I assume, whilst the latter should be dealt by adminmap (nonetheless again the players should behave fairly and not baserape, this for uncaps though. For the "last flag spawnkilling" I think that's up to the players as well unhappy).

It was, thank you. I have also edited the violations according to your screenshot.
Now commanders cannot fight with anything; they can only do their duties.

So this should alleviate just a little bit the situations when only one of the two teams
has a fighting commander that knows what to do and takes part into the fight as well.

Current problems.

Autoadmin kickt people because of camp in fixed base. The area for this is sometimes too big. Autoadmin kickt people when those with the car are close to the base (but not in the base)
Maybe we would have to reduce the circle around the base something the autoadmin does not strike so fast.

After the restart of the server the Autoadmin no longer warns. After the 3 offense he kicks without a reason to call.

We did a test earlier. dsghsdf has fought as a commander. 2 people killed. No warning after the 3rd kill, he was kicked without reason.

my pov. no warning ingame just kick after 3kills as commander.

and yes the mainbase-warning/kick zone is big on ghost town.
lots of warnings and sometimes kicks if they drive from waterflags to bridgeflags, both sides.
happens to new players most times.

The behavior you depicted about AdminMap is very weird, on top of that in the screenie Princess_unicorn posted the messages are not in the usual "big orange" fashion, which makes me think ...

Yesterday on the 'Gulf of Oman' there was Mr. Fighting Commander 'Bog76dan'. As usually he did fly jet and heli while commanding but he recieved no warnings.
Then suddenly the autoadmin kicked him with 'you have to many violations'. I can provide some screenshots in discord if its needed.

Fighting Commander detection is disabled if the player is the only one alive on his/her team. Was it 1v1?

here i found a ghost town pic but it looks worse. you dont get warnings on your server if you are west from ru base f.e.
i dont know for sure where the borders are on ghost town, i didnt test it myself just seen people get warned for driving along the river.
i think the borders should be on the mainbase coast. opens up the already small map.

Okay so I have checked both BF2CC and compared the AdminMap configuration with the one of Wake Island and there are no odd settings; the only difference being the commander cannot kill with weapons and jeeps as well, as we discussed some pages ago.

These are the flag zones of Surge, I suppose the orange square is the one causing the problem right? The players go through that square and are warned to leave the safe base right?

yes probably the orange one but could be the red box topleft corner too.
its that small part of street.
but the important flags are north anyway. outer ridge has 1 tank and inner ridge just cars.
ghost town rivers are more important imo.

the autoadmin works its just the ingame messages thats missing.

Maybe everything just needs a reboot. :o None of us modified anything, at least on AdminMap. unhappy About the flag zones we can tweak them as much as we want, so if you say there's a problem on ghost town I will take a look at its zones when it's online or when tge server is empty.

Then in this scenario AdminMap's fighting commander detection gets disabled automatically. If I am not mistaken it is embedded in the AdminMap software and this threshold can only be increased, not decreased or disabled.

If there is only 1 man in the whole faction, the fighting commander check (I suppose only for that faction) is disabled.

Did just play on the 'Gulf of Oman'-server. Conquest, just me and him/her.
Warnings and kick for fighting commander are in in that scenario.

thank you dsghsdf and Germany Princess_Unicorn for letting me know. After the restore of our services I have re-read this thread and I have edited / corrected some settings. Here is a summary of what I have changed:

- map sizes: 32 -> 64 (don't know why it reverted to 32 :o ),
- minimum players for voting: 4 -> 3 (edited scrolling message too, @ 5tarLine ),
- map rotation: removed Devils Perch and Leviathan as requested by many,

I think that if we make it so that it is allowed to pass through the area in the top-left corner, then the safe zone will become too little.

In other words, if I can correctly see the road that you are saying people usually use, the problem is that said road is too close to the uncappable base area. unhappy Please let me know. I also would appreciate some feedback from our most hardcore LS Members that like Special Forces very much.

You have to fight head on and the noobs cant run round to the back of the map and take flags.

Sorry to hear that McSlaine, but from what I have gathered so far, for each person that likes Devils Perch there are at least other 4 that do not like it. :'D Personally there isn't any Special Forces map that I truly dislike, I didn't dislike Devils Perch either. Let's see how these changes impact the server.

Thanks to dsghsdf and Germany Princess_Unicorn we have tested and edited the safe zones to tweak them further and make sure the players can travel through the flags without getting a warning. They will still be warned if their intention is to go into the safe zones marked in orange and red.

Due to BF2CC being shit software and due to our Custom Automated Cross-Server Instant Ban Synchronisation System normal BF2 Temporary Bans which are processed through BF2CC are not possible as they damage the contents of the mm_bans.xml & banlist.con files. I have long-term plans to develop a new Temporary Ban System that will maintain the bans in a separate list within our AutoAdmin Software and simply keep kicking players who are temporarily banned when they re-connect to a Server until the time is up. I don't have time to start working on this right now and I'm not going to promise it will ever happen, we will see if it's actually worth doing this in the future when & if our Servers recover from being de-ranked when we finally leave Battlelog.

I think it "makes autoadmin look useless" is the wrong choice of words and a little harsh though considering virtually no one else has functioning AutoAdmin and being kicked from the game for breaking rules is not exactly 'useless'.

As above, I'm not aware of any drag & drop script we could use for this. We would have to write it ourselves, it shouldn't be as difficult as the Temporary Bans but it's no 5 minute job and we have to balance the time it takes to code and test this with its worth. So no news I'm afraid.

i did test it just now.
i used some old lowrank account with 1 or 2 weapons unlocked already, those worked, all other weapons/classes had no unlocks available.
the server is running since 40rounds too, so no restart yet.

i never worked with bf2cc or bf2servers in depth, just basic ingame commands.
all i knew about servers is bf42 stuff, no autoadmin, no php, no complex code,no dbs,no own ranking..
just custom servermessages/commands, mapcycles, settings and few bf42 tricks.

T-Gamers has commander limitation and i heard you/shark are in contact with tema56something.
i send shark few old links about it but i dont know if its any use to you.

sorry for being impatient and the autoadmin usless part was wrong choice of words, my english is limited.
but in the end it doesnt do much then just show warnings that everybody can read and remove the offender for 30-60 secs from the game.
he rejoins and continues until the next 30sec kick. he keeps score and everything.
but yes, "useless" autoadmin is better then no autoadmin/no rules server, thats why i play here smiling

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback as always, dsghsdf. About the unlocks ... as I said I didn't quite apply the change I was going to try. :'D ... So ... I don't know what happened with the unlocks actually. :'D

About that feature of AdminMap keeping in its memory that it kicked a certain player and should act accordingly on said player's rejoin event, it has already been pointed out before and as 5tarLine said we were thinking of making this new feature ourselves with some help, but it's not at the top of the todo list I'm afraid.

And finally about the commander/playernumber restriction there are no updates at the moment.
I will inform you if there are any.

Okay so I have tried to uncheck the Global Unlocks setting in BF2CC but even so we're still observing the battlelog.co earned unlocks; I am not sure if that setting was actually applied but eventually I don't think it's going to do the trick. We will have to investigate further.

Meanwhile I managed to talk to Tema567 and he shared the script about restricting the commander usage with us; so I wanted to discuss with everyone and with dsghsdf what would the best threshold number be.

With the Staff Officers we thought 11 could be a nice value: the script makes the commander resign if a person tries to apply to commander when there are ≤ X players. So with 11 players in the server, if dsghsdf applied for commander he would then automatically resign.

In the event a 12th player would join the server, the script would not kick in anymore so you could have a battle between a 5-man squad + 1 commander vs 6 soldiers or vs 5 soldiers + 1 commander (in other words the script does not make you resign anymore if there's a 6 vs 6 going on in the server).

If the player number would drop back to 11, the script would activate itself again and there couldn't be any commanders anymore. Most likely the current commander (if any) would be picked up by the script and it would be automatically forced to resign.

Let me know if 11 sounds great to you guys as a possible threshold number. If possible, and I think 5tarLine would agree, if we are to install this script on all the servers I'd stay consistent with the threshold.

no, i dont know the threshold, maybe 12 or 16 for sf.
its trial and error. see how things work.
if 16 is set and playernumbers are stable around 16 too, then i would raise threshold and see if playernumbers raise too.

right now the autobalance seems to be off or something.
3 people in 1 team finished the round without enemy, next round they were together in same team without enemy.
and mapvote/mutiny/kickvote didnt work with 12 people playing.

Regarding the script we are still testing and tweaking it on the Wake Island server. I think we will start with a value of 11 and see how it goes; if needed it will be raised for Special Forces but I don't want to disable the commander entirely as it's part of the game at the end of the day. I just want to avoid those situations where it's abused when there are little to no players in the server.

we couldnt start the vote becuase 12players was not enough to start votes.
but i think its fixed now.

there was/is another problem with autobalance i think.
yesterday f.e. almost everybody was in 1 team after mapchange. i tried to switch but could not, the button basicly didnt work. i had to leave server and rejoin to switch teams.
dont know whats causing it.

About the autobalance, unfortunately it seems that at some random times it fails hugely to kick in and it will balance the Teams after many, many minutes. It doesn't happen on the SF Server only, I've seen it happen on other servers of ours too. unhappy

Sadly I don't think there's a way around it other than trying to reboot the server or try to disable and re-enable the autobalance. Don't know if a reboot is required to apply that change tho. :'(

Okay so we were discussing about the baserape events happening on some of the maps, in particular on Ghost Town. I have collected in this gallery the pictures of the AdminMap Zones for each of the current 6 maps we have in the rotation: https://www.lost-soldi...=gallery&galleryID=31.

Please revise them and give me a detailed feedback on which changes you would apply to the zones marked in Red, which are the "No Kill" zones where a warning for baserape will be issued. The orange zones are the "No Go" zones, where only Special Ops won't get warned when entering said zones.

Oh and about the Commander Script, thanks to 5tarLine I managed to apply it on the Special Forces server and set it to deactivate when the 14th player joins. In other words there will not be a commander if there are less than 14 peeps in the server.

wow, the base in Ghost Town is very small...When I stay on the Igla or the Tow and the Heli kill me then it is not baserape unhappy grrr then we have no chance to defend us.

Iron Gator: pink = no kill and no go (on ground)
MassDestruction: pink = no kill, and no go? top left corner is arty2
Night Flight: pink = no kill. no-go looks good.
Surge: pink = no kill. or make it like orange box, maybe less on the right side.
Warlord: small yellow = no kill, big yellow = no go.

Please for the first 2 weeks state that a no-baserape rule has been added, and to check the official thread in the Forum - the rules one - if they want to get more details).

that rule was there all the time. autoadmin always warned and kicked for baserape, just on some maps the zone was to small.

Ah, well yeah there sure were the no-kill zones before; but it wasn't stated nor in the official thread nor in the scrolling messages that there was a "no baserape" rule in place. Sometimes that helps to you know? tongue One diligent soldier could learn the rule from the message instead of ... you know ... attempting to baserape. Laugh

dsghsdf and I had tried again in the last 3 weeks sf to fill but it is getting harder. some disconnected after being killed twice or are now banished like piligrim and eft. I brought in friends like Messerjockel, Phoenixpredator and Viper but even then it did not fill up anymore. It came maybe 3 people more

Yep we have to coordinate our activity. You know our whole SW clan is willing to support our sf server because we like it very much. Unfortunately we can only play on weekends right now. But since most players are active on weekends, i suggest we are going to try it then. With messerjockl, predator, viper, dsghsdf, princess and Dark, Destroyer and me se should have enough people to get the server started.

i thought about the same thing yesterday smiling
put Levi and Devils back into rotation and see what happens, maybe somebody on Hub would like to play those maps, maybe for short time only.
the playernumbers cant get worse and i think the other sf servers dont have those maps in rotation neither (for a reason i guess).
maybe the names attract people, maybe not.
i wouldnt mind.


and i would say devils after iron and levi after surge, no?

first: thanks to all who joined SF today. It was a lot of fun with good balanced teams!

@shark the maps were (the last post show it was youcrazy) reduced to the 3 most popular because since Hub SF players have decreased. to attract they with the most popular maps. you are welcome to visit SF more often and I do not have a problem to bringing more maps into rotation back

Bloody hell, you're right! I cannot believe it was me indeed! Laugh Problem is, at least that's how I felt it, that I got really disappointed when Iron Gator loaded up just after two rounds ... so much so that I wanted to change the map myself!

What I mean is, ok, maybe those are the most popular maps according to you guys (how can Iron Gator be one of those is out of my grasp though :'D), but doesn't it get repeating to be playing on the same 3 damn maps over and over again?

There's tons of other great Special Forces maps. Hell, they're actually all great except one or two maybe ... No? Let me know, in my opinion it gets boring real quick. Although ... the three rounds we had today lasted quite long.

So I like Iron Gator. But I also had a good teacher with Dsghsdf. If you know finally the floors it's a great map crazy but yes ... I missed Surge and Mass Destruction. Normally, the last time SF did not go so well. Mostly people go after 1 or 2 rounds. You are welcome to add maps again.

They are but that didnt help the last Month.
Mass destruction and Surge

+ Night Flight, than there is atleast one Night Map for Devang. Its not big and almost inf only, just Cars, Bikes and 1 Apc.
The 2 other Nightmaps are good too but rather big and often killed Server back in the Day.
But now.. "You Can't Kill What's Already Dead"..

Imo you could add all Maps to Rotation, in the End its not the Maps but the Players that make the Game good or bad.
If you Guys(Admins) play SF than you can skip or change Maps to your liking, if others start playing SF than you could still change the Mapcycle back to something "better".

True words, but I want to mention that the real issue we had the last month, was not our map selection in the rotation, but that every soldier who connected to our server was being kicked every round. Thats why our server was dead a long time. We solved that issue last week, and now we can play properly. Yeah, I would agree and go for all maps except Devils perch, that map really sux imo.

Yes, as Carbon says our dear friend 5tarLine has performed some changes to the Special Forces server that should lessen the amount of times that players get disconnected after a map-change event. Having said so, and having discussed with dsghsdf and the others about it, I am reverting the rotation to this old one:

I registered to write in this post.
I played at BF2 since 2009 (DVD with all the expansions) and I played for years (with other nik, of course) and with my Niks / Accout I have more than 2200 hours of play, especially on ^Special Forces^, my preferred. Only on ^Warlord^ I have more than 800 hours (I spent entire weekends smiling )
But my favorite were the night maps, if I had found a server 24/7 I would have spent the weekend.
Now, after the mess with the ^private^ who have tried to keep the game, this is practically dead ... and I found myself at least decent alternatives. But I have always kept an eye on BF2, especially on the ^SF^.
Vanilla stewed me, except for some rare maps and I would not return except for ^Great Wall Infantry 24/7^ (there was a server once) also ^Songhua Stalemate^, or ^Operation Blue Pearl^ were cute ... or ^Zatar Wetlands^ e ^Operation Harvest^, also ... but I rarely see them, and I get tired of the usual 4 maps, played to the point of nausea that I do not like very much just to hope to play a nice map.
SF, though ... is another matter
And now I get to the point.
Why did you remove the 2 most beautiful maps?
^Devil's Perch^ is my favorite, I would have played it continuously. And ^Leviathan^ is a great map.
Personally, if I had to make a ranking, it would be as follows.
1st (the most beautiful)
^Devil's Perch^
^Leviathan^
^Night Flight^
^Warlord^ (above all infantry)
2nd (good)
^Ghost Town^ (even if it gave me a little stew)
^Iron Gator^ (even if difficult because unbalanced)
3rd (boring)
^Mass Destruction^
^Surge^
I would like to return to play these maps, but I would like to see them all ... not just some ... much less if my favorites are missing.
And in any case, only and exclusively those complete (64 players), even if not necessarily with 64 seats to occupy. But the ^reduced^ maps do not even take them into consideration, I do not even lose time to enter.
And, generally, I'm always just looking for ^No Rules^ servers... I would like to play ALL this game, with no restrictions on weapons, tactics and strategies ... which, generally, are just the whim of players who are not looking for a real war game, but a sort of ^Medieval Joust^ or ^Circus of Gunslingers^, something that Battlefield should NOT be ... but on this, if I'm not exaggerated, I can sustain some limitations.
For the rest (maps e size) I do not even lose time to enter.
Obviously this is just MY point of view ... the server is yours and the choices are yours, but since this thread is talking about ... hoping at least in a recovery of all the maps, I wanted to express the my point of view.
Otherwise, it's time, it's the real time I uninstall BF2 and I forget it.
Too bad ... I saw your server populated and I looked for the clan / forum ... and I was very sorry to read that I'm not rotating the maps that I prefer the most.

If I can bear to play in some boring maps to wait to play in those favorites ... since now the players are few ... I do not see why others can not do the same.

thank you very, very much for enlisting to write this feedback post! We really appreciate your observations and, boy, I always welcome a fellow countrymen (Italy) in our Community! wink (by the way, we are a community, not a clan; there's a difference)

So, where do we start from here ... if you go back some pages, you will realize that over the years we have changed the rotation quite a bit, based on the users' feedback. Your two favorites were originally part of our full rotation, but we had to remove them because as much as there are Devils / Leviathan lovers, there are many haters too ... too many, in fact.

We had to balance it out: people would leave when these map were being loaded, and the server would get "killed" (emptied). We have map-vote enabled, but players simply left upon loading the map or shy of some minutes after being spawned.

I like those maps too and accept their challenges, and so do you and some of our Members, but for the most part of our - small - SF playerbase, I am sorry to say that these two maps are generally "frowned upon". unhappy (we do have Night Flight in the current rotation though, and we plan to keep it. Out of the three night maps, this felt as the most suitable one to leave in the rotation)

Right now I am personally taking care of our Special Forces server and making it the one and only server where there's actually a great chance to have a fun time during the evenings (EU). We are getting a nice group pf regular players to join and our current record stands at 14 active human players in the same match! Please refer to the Discord invitation link in my Forum signature below my post, as we use it to rally ourselves on the server at the same time and build up a nice match / have fun together.

For the reasons above I humbly beg you to stick with us - Lost-Soldiers - who knows if these two maps of yours may make a comeback in the future!! wink (if there's support to your demand from the rest of our Community)



Small digression about the Infantry and Vehicle Rotation Servers.
[toggle=Read more]Speaking about map favorites, Songhua Stalemate and Zatar Wetlands are amongst mine too, as well as FuShe Pass and Highway Tampa (great Tank battles there!).

We have all of those maps in our Vehicle Server's rotation! Operation Harvest, Kubra Dam, Operation Road Rage (I really like this one too), Operation Smoke Screen, Taraba Quarry ... we have all of them. In our Infantry Rotation server we feature Great Wall too, as well as Songhua Stalemate (great sniper battles here).

Personally I just tried to get the Infantry Rotation server going the other day, had 4 players in total - incl. me - but as soon as Great Wall loaded, they all disappeared. unhappy I suspect because they did not have the map files (as the map is part of the Euro Forces booster pack).

Regarding your feedback about the rules, well, the only non-written rule which I am working onto right now is simply a limitation of the claymores in the flag radius (just for the Special Forces server). All the rest of the weapons are allowed, and our rules for the SF server - which you can read in each board - are pretty much no baserape and no fighting commander (not a problem usually because we have a commander-limiter script in place, to unlock commander only with 24 players or more). So I don't understand your statements about a no-rules server. wink

Finally, regarding your last statement: "If I can bear to play in some boring maps to wait to play in those favorites ... since now the players are few ... Well, especially because of that, and because it is so hard to get new people on Special Forces and because I am working hard to get the server back on track, we cannot risk to waste these efforts of mine by giving in on the request of only one user. This is when the Community should kick in and back up or counter your statements (this is the point of this thread), so expect a couple of replies in the next week. smile

As I said I would play the missing maps too, but for the moment I don't think it's yet the time for Leviathan or Devils Perch to be added to the rotation. We can have a poll in the future, yes; just like we did for the Infantry Rotation Server.

About that, I hereby inform you that after having played quite some matches in the Special Forces Server, I noticed that Night Flight's position in the current rotation wasn't helping at all ... as I said that's the only night map we are currently running, but after spending many days on the server it felt to me as it was still kind of a server killer.

Therefore we are now testing this new rotation, please give it some time to be learnt and played! In the mean time, you can give me feedback about how the (now old) rotation was ... if you felt some changes were needed, or if you agree about Night Flight's repositioning (because you noticed an abnormal number of disconnects when that map was loaded, in the middle of the old rotation).

I really enjoy the SF server, but I think we should give at least Leviathan a try. I like the map more than night flight, and it would create some more diversion. Moreover I would like to see Iron Gator a second time in rotation, since that map is definitely the second best after Warlord. So I suggest a new rotation:

many people disconnected in the past when they came up.
is it possible to enable them manualy on the server? set them as next map if they are not in active rotation?

i would say iron gator was/is 3rd most popular map in sf. the last server were ghost/warlord only.
iron can be a killer too if mecs cant get off the island but that didnt happen in the past on LS.
add it a 2nd time, i wouldnt mind.

@SW03_Carbon I will store your suggestion safely. As previously stated, let's try and build a constant playerbase first; it's been less than a month since we started looking deeply into the Special Forces server and paying close attention to it.

In these weeks we have tested the old rotation deeply and came out with a new one, which we shall test for some weeks again too. After that, in the new year, we may do a poll about favorite maps or about inserting the missing maps in the rotation, and decide what to do based on the result and general state of the xpack mod / server.

@Imperial_Toaster as dsghsdf says, unfortunately the missing maps are night maps and they are not enjoyed by everyone. New players frown upon them very much, apparently. It is already a bit difficult to retain new players on Night Flight, mainly because they are totally unaware about number '7' being the key binded to night vision goggles!

We try to help the people that stay in the server, by telling it to them, and usually the result is good and they stay.

@dsghsdf No unfortunately what you suggest is not possible with Battlefield 2 (or rather, with BF2CC), as far as I know. An admin would be needed to be constantly in-game to monitor the situation and skip those maps if it's not a good time to play them. About setting them as 'next map' no, you can only set maps that are in the current rotation, or change to a map that is in the current rotation.

Noted on the Iron Gator feedback, thanks. We'll see if it is possible to add it sooner than the other maps we are discussing it. If anybody wishes to give further feedback regarding Iron Gator, you are welcome. Mainly we are trying to discuss Leviathan and Devils Perch right now.

weekends are going well, maybe add devils and levi for one weekend and see what happens?
maybe wait for more players and try it later? if its not working out you take them out again and restart server.

no please dont change the timer. if the rounds take time then its good fight with lots of flagchange and battle.
it sux to lose a round because time runs out and tickets are 50:100 but you are about to win and bleed the 100enemy tickets.

That is correct, I always pay attention to the ticket bleed, it can get crucial to win the match at times. Well, as I said the discussion must be held on the Forum, with everybody. So if this person is not going to bother to come here and discuss it with all of us (telling us why 45 minutes would work better than 60 minutes for everyone, not just for him/her), then we are not going to bother about discussing it.

For the people who are reading from this page, we are discussing whether to add or not the missing 2 night maps: Leviathan and Devil's Perch; and also if Iron Gator deserves to occur two times in the rotation or not (current rotation here, we also discussed Iron Gator on the prev. page too).

So i personally like Leviathan, and I know from others that they like it too and would like to play it. Its never worse than night flight at all. Definitely put Iron Gotor in a second time, I cant see a reason why we should play Ghost town twice but Iron Gator only once.

Iron gator is at least same popular as Ghost Town, most players like the map.
And I wouldnt exchange Levi with Night flight, but simply add it. The new rotation i would suggest is:

I got asked to play iron gator thats why i switched. And after iron i tried to switch back, but that wasnt possible because ghost is in rotation twice and there was an error because of that, im sorry

Regarding commander i would agree, what is your treshold suggestion?

Right now it's set to 24 so yeah, 7 VS 7 (ideally one full squad plus the commander). It's pretty standard on all our 64-size servers - so not the Infantry server - albeit on Special Forces there's a player cap of 48 last time I checked.

The proposed map rotation seems good. We may try it very soon; although Iron Gator sometimes is a good one, other times it makes people leave (more rarely ... it depends on who is playing I guess).

I confirm the player limit is set to 48 players total (so 38 without counting the bots). Not sure why it was set that way, I assume it may have to do with the old rotation? I believe we were running smaller maps (32 size I think). Anyways, so dsghsdf is saying he would disable commander entirely. Laugh I am afraid that is not possible. But seriously, when do we see commanding on the server? Usually only during weekends when we pass the threshold. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall people successfully applying for commander during the week ... yet.

EDIT: Carbon so you mean you wouldn't change the current threshold for commander (i.e. 24 players; 10 bots + 14 humans). I think it works ok for the moment.

Regarding the maps I had read all the pages, but few complained about the night maps ... it does not seem to me more than those that required them. I should reread everything again to mention the names.
As for the server, I do not discuss that since I do not follow the story.
But if you go behind those who enter and those who go out risk of becoming crazy, because you'll never know what goes through the head to all the random players that run for the web.
Especially now that Gamespy no longer exists and anyone can use this game practically for free.
However, if I can express a specific opinion ... from what I had already understood in the ^golden days^, many complain about the night vision that annoys the eyes.
Objectively, if you use the game ^as is^ he is almost all completely black and the night glasses are a bit ^uncomfortable^ in general, and could bother you in the long run.
There is the possibility to avoid too strong contrasts:
(I take it for granted that everyone already has ^DynamicLightingQuality^ and ^DynamicShadowsQuality^ at minimum or zero)
By changing the ^Range^ in the color settings of the video card (I use nvidia) you can make the difference between light and dark less extreme making everything more visible, playable and less annoying. I think many do not know this possibility, which is NOT a trick, since it goes to work only on the ^normal^ video card settings available to everyone.
I always use it @ 1.6 (even on the daily PC), and it's like that on the gaming PC, since the new BF are much more ^user friendly^ (arcade x casual player) and the night maps are not so ^nocturnal^, but very clearly visible (in fact there are no longer night vision glasses).
When I use BF2SF, to night maps, also increase the brightness and contrast of the monitor (consider that I still use my good and ^old^ CRT, so it is not a ^light beacon^ like the new LCD, but as video quality and speed and absence of ^Ghosting^ is unbeatable at the time), I modify the ^Range^ @ 1.8 or 2.0.
So the night maps become visible without particular annoyances and night glasses become really necessary on a few occasions ... becoming more playable and much less annoying.
You could do some publicity about it.
Even the ^Midnight Sun^ of the ^Armored Fury^ was not so ^black^, probably because in AF the use of night glasses was not foreseen. Changing the Gamma makes the night maps of the SF almost the same.
If the ^habitual^ players of 2009 (BF2 experts) were not all aware of this and complained about the ^nuisance^, think of the ^new^ random ^players^... all ^lost in the dark^, I think http://www.chatitaliachat.it/serpe/ride/23.gif
Maybe a warning at the entrance of the server, or in the sliding chat ^For night maps set the ^Range^ of video drivers @ 1.8 / 2.0^ and try to reset the cycle all night maps, maybe at the end.
I do not know what effect it could have with a new LCD monitor, though. Maybe 1.8 / 2.0 is a bit too much, you should try.
If it is not yet clear ... in the hope of being able to review all these night maps play ... I could do a short tutorial with screenshots of the setup windows and related changes to the game.
More than that, I do not know what to say.

Only a last clarification.
When I wrote that:
^If I can bear to play in some boring maps to wait to play in those favorites ... since now the players are few ... I do not see why others can not do the same.^
It did NOT want to be a criticism of you or the community ... but to players who leave the server if they can not play the map they like.
If everyone did that, they would play in a few.
I think you should leave all the maps, one after the other ... mixing well those most ^appreciated^ with those less (not to create groups of ^bother^ for anyone) ... and making note (maybe with writing in chat of the server), that what you like, may not like another ... if you want to have players on your favorite map you MUST agree to play the favorite one of someone else you do not like.
I see it that way.
I would gladly enter if I saw ALL the maps, I would end up playing those I do not like and then playing the ones I like best. If there are not those that I like, I will not even go there.
And I do not continue on the subject because I would risk offending someone.
I speak of the players who claim that everything and everyone is as they want (maps, rules, tactics, strategies, etc ...) I see too many in all the Battlefields.
But this is not the thread.


Regarding the rules.

I read them, but there is not only the limitation of claymore to the flag (try to favor the ^exchange of racing flags without fighting^?!?) ... You have a ^strange^ limitation of the ^base rape^.
Apart from being a game of war and not a ^Medieval Tournament^ there is also the base rape (even to me from bothering, but if you are closed in base means that the team is too poor ... avoid spawning and leaving finish the game already lost, rather it would be to implement a ^randomization^ of the players, because the game is still boring, even by winners). But blocking an entire area only on one side ... is discriminatory and generates ugly imbalances.
Either you boil on both sides or nothing is blocked.
And the problem of the assets of the commander aggravates even more the discrimination and the imbalance of the game.
If the SpecOps can destroy assets but NOT defend itself is grotesque! How many would be willing to commit suicide without even being able to defend themselves. So much it is forbidden to stop everything.
Even more serious is if this is NOT done with automatic script ... in this case the discrimination is even more annoying:
There will be the ^uncaring break rules^ that will destroy everything anyway (it always happened on the SUPER @ servers, where it was forbidden to use the C4 but was often used anyway ... and you go to call the admin ... that often if they rub or dry because they do not say they do not live to follow their servers ... http://www.chatitaliachat.it/serpe/humor/142.gif) and the ^honest^ who will take it in the ass without being able to answer.
Then, these situations also generate other forms of discrimination: who is taken and sanctioned and who is not.
This is the worst situation:
Rules not enforced or enforced ^by chance^.
In my opinion, the first feature of a ^serious^ server is when it enforces ALWAYS and ALL rules!
If there is not the possibility to do it (people, means, resources, ^desire^ sometimes, etc ...) it is better NOT to put any rule ... at least it is clear to everyone and anyone can defend as best he believes .
it is much more civil, democratic and above all sporting = all equal.

Obviously this is just my point of view and in any case a general speech of what I saw in my years of playing BF in all the servers.

I do not know how the speech will evolve on your SF server. Now it is the only one that still interests me. For the ^basic^ version I have already seen that what remains of this game no longer interests me.
I kept BF2 also installed for the mod FH (WW2), but despite the versions remains just beautiful to see but I do not know why (and I wrote in their forum years ago), the movements of tanks and vehicles are ridiculous and annoying. I always hoped the correct and playable version would arrive, but I have not seen it yet.
Now many years have passed, and I have also become accustomed to the destructible environment ... already after BF3, return to BF2 and find a tank blocked by a simple and stupid railing ... and not be able to kill anyone if he hid behind at a window ... it seemed really very stupid.
And from the ^arcade drift^ of the Battlefield saga, I would try to change with ArmA3 (which gives me some problems, though) ... I hope it's not all that ^run, jump and shoot ... and cry^ that became BF.
From what I saw and read in this forum, I think that soon I will make the ^definitive leap^ and uninstall BF2 and BF3 (now I only liked ^Scavenger^, but it does not play almost anyone anymore).
It is probably the end now ^obvious^ for the SF: rare players and all only on ^Ghost Town^ and ^Warlord^.
And this is not for me anymore.
For me BF2 was really a turning point (from various simulators to this FPS), and a real fun for many years and many ^long^ we (until the closure of Gamespy) ... but nothing in life ^is forever^... and now, obviously, it's just like a ^broken old toy^: many good memories but now basically useless.

@Riddick_2K as I wrote you in my first PM, as unfortunate as it sounds we do not get many feedback on the Forum, regarding the Special Forces server. We do get feedback in-game though, via chat messages or by witnessing players disconnecting when certain maps load (for example, we noticed that Devils Perch would kill the server, when we used to run it a couple years ago).

What I mean is: the voices in this thread are from people that care about SF and that are usually good at it. These people usually like most of the maps or if not, they don't mind to play the night maps because they can handle it. But you should at least test it on more modern monitors and video cards, don't you think?

TL;DR Night vision is enough and that's the way it works, no need (for us, or any other new player) to tinker with settings that are applied globally, just to play 3 maps. Seriously. You can do how you please on your own PC though and ... "CRT monitor" ... really?[/toggle]
I will delve into the discussion regarding why you are not even trying to set foot in our server via PM, but ... you say you generally prefer no-rules servers and that you won't bother joining our SF server if we don't run all the maps. You say you can handle a bit of restrictions (regarding the rules) and that you would be willing to play the maps that you don't like, if you are then able to play Leviathan and Devils Perch in return. You say that you don't share the same mindset of the players that leave the server if the map isn't their favorite, but then you say "if there are not those that I like, I will not even go there" which is exactly what you despise? ...

Regarding your view of our rules instead, I don't want to start writing essays here as I am used to do, so I'll just reply here, where the discussion about rules belongs to. If you want to discuss further about our rules on the Special Forces server, please reply there.

I honestly had the impression that you registered to give feedback because you actually played on our SF server and saw the scrolling message about giving us some feedback here in the Forum, but apparently my assumption was incorrect and you never played on it, you never even tried to join it.

We managed to bring back Special Forces in one month, and now we play regularly and during the weekends we usually get 20 players. This Sunday we had 24 players (without counting bots), tonight (Tuesday!!) we were already 20 at 18:45 on Warlord!! (picture taken whilst still on Surge, 18 humans: Screenshot_20190122-183934.png).

Exactly this is our long term goal. But it needs time to achieve, and first we have to increase our popularity even further and establish a solid playerbase, that we are actually able to run those maps without killing the server entirely. Things like this requires some time, but we have already managed to revive a nearly dead game in just a few weeks.

As Shark said, we have quite full servers now, not only on weekends, even during the week, like today with 18 human players on Surge (!!), a number you only could dream of a few weeks ago and I haven't even seen during the battlelog era with an even bigger playerbase.
Leviathan may be added very soon to our rotation, so that we are running a total of 7 different maps, including 3 of the 4 maps you stated as "most beautiful" in your initial post.

So all I can hope for is some patience and that you are willing to help us to achieve our goal. There are already lots of good matches and intense fights for the flags (even without clays in flag zone, believe it or not), we are hearing a lot of positive feedback regarding the servers. So please give it a try and check the server out.

Oh and let me add one more thing: i think our admins are doing a great job most of the time, we spend lots of our time to get servers started and populated, to respond to feedback or ban appeals, to check player reports, to observe players, to check our Demos to collect evidence for rulebreakers, to monitor our logs and so on... We do know very well what is happening on our servers, and I think nobody here gets a unfair treatment, everyone will be listened to and nobody will be banned without a valid reason. On the other hand we like to give players a second chance. Of course, everyone can have a bad day and mistakes can happen, we are only humans.

what about add levi and devils today or next weekend? the server runs good on weekends and maybe its good time to test them, see if and how many people will leave.
some asked me for those maps, some would like to play them.
see how it goes on the weekend if its no instant serverkill then keep them for the week and see what happens then?

proposed mapcycle:
warlord
ghost town
iron gator
surge
nightflight

mass destruction
leviathan
devils perch

or maybe switch mass destruction with levi or perch so there wont be 2 nightmaps in a row.
on the other hand, if the first night map kills server then it wont matter what comes after it.. idk.

levi didnt have the best start yesterday but i think we should try the 64 size a few more times.
im not sure if the 32 will help, maybe it will but then it will be like night flight. less flags, cars only and night.

about the commander, again...
it would be really nice if you could raise the player threshold. 6+1 per team to enable com is to low, imo.
the last days somebody went com as soon as the treshold was reached.
com makes teams even more unbalanced. even if 2 coms are active, if only one knows about manual spots then that team has huge advantage already.
good uav, arty and supply placement and other team has no chance. red dots make it easier for nadecamper on roofs too.
without uav/spots they have to move atleast some or chance is high that they wont see and kill much.
without uav they have to watch for enemys themself, means they can be spotted by enemys and can be killed.
with uav they can lay down in some corner and just wait for red dots to spam their nades.
com is like minimap hack for all, where is the fun if you always know where the enemy is and what he is doing?

We added Leviathan (64) to the rotation long ago but I forgot to update the thread. Anyways we are switching to Leviathan (32) as Germany SW03_Carbon said multiple times because every time that we managed to play this map, it was simply too big (and quite frankly I don't feel comfortable to test our luck by altering the rotation live, during a full game, to see how many stay or leave on Leviathan (64), so we will try the 32 size now).

I would like to bring this topic up once more, now that our server is finally more popular and our current record is set to 38 (10 bots + 28 humans) - and by the way it looks set in stone too, yesterday (Saturday) we reached 38 again after a long time - I noticed the same behaviour too: people seem to go Commander as soon as the threshold gets reached.

Most of the times it's not so terrible, but I feel that since the server has grown in popularity (and player numbers have increased too, on the good nights that is), we should increase the threshold by 2 or 4 units. What do you think about this? Thank you very much.

I agree with reducing the size of Leviathan to 32; it definitely felt big and it's one of my less favorite maps in the rotation.

I personally don't mind Commanders in the larger rounds, but I agree that 6+1 per team for one seems a little low. Maybe raise the threshold to 9 or 10 players per team?

And allow fightin' commander altough with 2 human players smiling

Hey guys. Shark told me to give my wish here. Please repeat iron gator in map rotation twice too. I remember iron gator was the most played SF map in the good old days, together with warlord.

I think this will help the server to get more people the come, too.

And+1 for Chris Iron Gator was most popular than others and need to be played twice in a rotation like warlord and Ghost Town

Personally I would like to have the timer set to 45 minutes instead of 30. 30 minutes is not enough when the teams are balanced and there is no ticket bleed. We ended 2 matches with over 100 tickets to spare due to the timer running out. Both matches were just about to really pick up and an extra 15 minutes would have made a huge difference.

Hmm. We could probs try this on our infantry server if people wanted to, but I wouldn't make the regular SF server Warlord inf only. Mainly because it has become known as "the" SF server and personally I play SF just for the kits & vehicles. What I'd like to see on "the" server would be a weekend of Warlord / ghost town / (maybe iron gator) only and see how that would play out. They are the most popular SF maps and I have noticed that many people leave when we play the other, less popular maps.

What kind of revenge do you expect on maps like Ghost Town ... this setup actually kills the buzz as you end up playing two broken rounds and you never get to a clear victory (just win by tickets after the 30 minutes run out).

The setting will be changed back to how it was before: 1 round, 60 minutes match time. This is for the better. We have the popular maps in the rotation twice anyways, no need for a "revenge", broken round, which feels like a robbery (cops vs bandits) more than an actual proper match.

Changes / suggestions will be discussed in greater detail from now on, before turning them on.

After playing Perch for a little bit yesterday, I actually thought it was not that bad. Personally I would like to keep it and instead remove Leviathan from the rotation, as I prefer Perch much more than Leviathan.

Thanks for your feedback @PlayerAlpha, but after such a long way to add these (night) maps, I don't think we are going to remove them. We reduced Leviathan to 32 size because it was too big, but let's hear what the others have to say about it. I haven't actually played Devils Perch yet! Good fights tonight though, 32/48 peak! smiling

SPECIAL FORCES EVENT this Saturday 10th August at 18:00 CEST — Special Forces Infantry Only Event!

Map rotation: Warlord (32), Iron Gator (16), Iron Gator (32), Night Flight (32), Ghost Town (32), Surge (16), Devil's Perch (16). It will be 1 round per map according to the vote in our Forum, 60 minutes match. For any question, doubt or feedback, please reply to: lost-soldiers.org/v2.p...orum_topic&topic=1164.

If a match will end up too shortly (eg. 10 minutes), the map will be re-played immediately. Commander will not be enabled, vehicles will be disabled (DUH https://i.imgur.com/0J4r5X4.png), no claymores allowed in flag radius (please pay attention to this rule which is to be followed during regular matches too).

I have tested all the maps personally. smile
There will be boats, just boats, to board the carrier.
It will be funny to survive but we must play as a Team!
