Hello everyone,

this thread is directed to all the Players that play on either of our Servers,
so to all of our entire enlisted Community.

Since the Infantry Server is not really well populated, I wanted to propose some changes that could help us start matches on this Server more easily; and basically let our Players have more fun that what they currently have on this Server.

First of all, the size of the maps.

It is really difficult to get a good match going in the Infantry Server, and also in the Vehicle one. But imagine playing infantry on a 64 scale map, with only 3 or 4 Players ... With vehicles you can have some fun and move quickly, but on foot you either get stuck in a loop of capping and uncapping flags, never facing the enemy, or you just get tired to be in such a big ass map with just two folks to hunt down in the enemy Team.

I propose to try to scale this Server down to 16 Players sized maps (also setting the maximum number of Players to 16 accordingly). This way it will be easier, I hope, to kickstart a match, and it will be generally more pleasant to play when there are just a few Players (at least the Server will move from the "empty" list to the "populated" one). Also squadding up and giving orders makes more sense in small maps, where you really have to think strategically on where and when to attack.

Secondly, the ticket and round numbers.

I propose to re-scale them as well: scale down the tickets to something like 100 - 100 tickets for some maps, 150 - 150 for others; and to increase the number of rounds from 1 to 2. This way we will have fast and intense close quarters fights that don't get boring quickly (and that is awesome for infantry!); the losing team has a chance to take the other side of the map in the following round (to get the "revenge"), you don't get stuck in the same never-ending match forever, and you also change from map to map quite quickly.

This in my opinion would yield a better experience and it's worth a test run, because for the moment the Infantry Server is probably one of the less popular we have. What are your thoughs?

Yea, it's worth a try. smiling A 16 Player Mapsize with 64 Players would be a total Mess. But its Fun :p. And can you Turn off the Nades? So People cant Nadespam? It is quite Annoying/Lame in my Opinion...

No wait, wait. I'll edit the post: when I said 16 players map size,
I also meant that 16 was going to be the maximum number of Players.

@EYELESS I think that if the change of direction turns out to be welcomed and the Server starts to actually fill itself over time, at some point we will think about making it bigger (32) and see if it scales up correctly or if it becomes less populated over time.

For the moment though, I feel that this way the Infantry Server isn't going far, and we (LS Members) don't have the numbers yet to be able to split and paddle all the five Servers.

So, I've applied the changes and also threw in some less known maps in the rotation. Hopefully they are welcome! I've lowered the ticket ratio and set the rounds to 2. The idea is to have shorter rounds, but more intense; and the goal is to make the server's population increase ... because as of right now we're stuck at zero all the time. smile So I said, "something must be changed!".

Maybe in the first time we should start populating the server by being on it with 4 guys of us at the same time, bc no one goes on an empty server. When my internet will be back up maybe me and some other guys can hang out on the server and maybe people will come

I fully appreciate that you mean well here and are attempting to stimulate our servers with your ideas everyone. I'm happy for this discussion to continue and then to consider making some potential changes, if they make sense. However, it's not that long ago that i swapped all of the servers over (can't be much more than 6 weeks), in this case it was Karkand Infantry Only to Infantry Rotation.

Now, some of you may remember a few evenings back when i was last online where we had some good battles on the new Infantry Rotation Server., on 64 Player Map Sizes. Yes, there was a bit of organisation in the Shoutbox to get a group of us online but that is all that is required to get it going.

My strategy with our Servers has always been to win peoples trust over the long term with reliability and consistency, that is how you keep players coming back for years and having only recently made changes to this server and others, i'm a bit surprised to return after 6 weeks to see it's settings have now been heavily modified, for instance with the reduced player count. I'm afraid as i've said before i do not believe the secret to success with our servers is trying to continously tweak settings to fit everyone's last wish, let's just say i wouldn't have sanctioned these changes had i been online.

Part of people's desire to come and play in our servers or "be attracted to us" is based on our strength in knowing what we are doing and the message we send out, being consistent with what we offer so players know they are guaranteed a certain level of quality in terms of their entertainment when they play in our Servers. Whilst, tweaking Player Counts & Map Sizes may be required on Special Forces where there are far fewer players (and according to the feedback I've seen - your tactics seem to be working), this approach is not one i condone with our Vanilla Servers.

We simply need to support these quieter servers by getting on them and playing, that may mean you join one of our empty Servers from time to time and call for Backup in the Shoutbox, trust me i've spent 100's of hours trying to get empty servers going over the years. This sustained effort and increased coordination/advertising is our Formula to success. No amount of tweaking other settings is going to help fix wider issues like this, trust me.

I want people to know they can rely on us and our offering and be confident that we know what we are doing, that is why i will be reverting Infantry Rotation, Oman & Vehicle Rotation Servers back to their previous setup of when i was last online. These are the base settings from which any such discussions on changing them will proceed.

Please do not take offence anybody or think i don't appreciate your efforts, but this is my executive decision as XO.

I appreciate your extremely professional attitude about this.

I'm also very keen not to 'shit-all-over' your ideas or our other members, i realise you spent time making these changes and the changes were made with good intentions of course. So let's discuss anything yourself or other members feel is particularly important to change from the base settings as a priority (aside from Map Size & Player Count).

I'm interested to hear how the performance was over recent weeks following the change of settings/configurations across our servers as well?

I have played a couple of times on the Inf server now.
The only suggestion I have is to remove the Map "Operation Clean Sweep".
It is no inf map, but an air map and it is hard to play Inf on it. The few players on it are leaving regularly.

I think Oman had little bit of a boost, but most of the feedback I've gotten was that the Players preferred the 64 map size and its increased air-space; thus I've reverted it back to that size. The Oman Server is running Dalian as well now, in a 4 rounds rotation, as suggested here.

The vehicle rotation was the last one I've changed; we managed to get a group to start it yesterday and it was quite fun. My favorite maps would be Operation Road Rage and FuShe Pass (great fun there with Galactic|Pegasus!).

@Germany SW03_Carbon I agree, I had a match on it some days ago with just one enemy, and it was boring because even in 16 size that map is really big! Laugh So ditto on your suggestion, I agree. Shall we remove it 5tarLine?

Eventually I've been trying to get the Special Forces Server going by promoting it on battlelog.co as well (where I suggest some of you drop a reply during the weekends, to bump it up again), but in that Server you have to be there to kickstart it; otherwise it's not filling on its own very well.

Other than that, aside from the basic map/player sizes,
I don't feel / don't recall there's anything urgent at the moment.

I played some matches today on the inf server and noticed that the map size is 64. It is way too big for the few players and impractical in general, please reduce it to 16 or at least 32

today we were just 3-4 players, playing and waiting for others to join. Lululu and me, together with Princess Unicorn and my SW mates tried to fill it up the last weeks, but the max amount of players we reached once were 12.

64 player size is way too big, because it's too much running and too few killing. Just imagine Oman size 64, with an uncap carrier, lots of water and a giant desert and an uncap airfield.

In my opinion the 32 player size is optimal for inf only on these classical infantry maps, even with only few players:
- Strike at Karkand
- Sharqi Peninsula
- Mashtuur City
- Great Wall
- Blue Pearl
- Road to Jalalabad
(- Songhua stalemate)
All of these maps are also very good playable in 16 player size.

The air maps
- Gulf of Oman
- Kubra Dam
are only practical in 16 player size imo.

So I suggest we should run all the maps with the 16 player size (probably as long we have only few players regularly) OR in 32 player size, but then without Oman and Kubra Dam.

At this time there will be no more changes to BF2 Servers #2, #3 or #4:
-We need to show consistency with what we are looking to provide, people like to know that they can rely on a server to give them what they want and enjoy. This is the key to developing long-term relationships between server and player.
-It's not that long ago (in terms of the time it takes to grow a successful server) that i made the changes to these servers.
-Our BF2 Servers are intended to support 64-Players and that is how they will remain, this is the player-base we are targeting, those that like to / will only play on large maps.
-I appreciate that low player rounds can be slow on any large map, but with a little perseverance of these seed-players the server popularity will gradually increase and that problem will be overcome.
-Finally, due to the nature of BF2CC and that we are running a program which suffers from critical issues on Windows, on Linux - Swapping between different Profiles & Configurations is not always an easy thing to do. In fact, it took several full installs of BF2CC, Reboots & Repairs to prevent it from overwriting / corrupting files. After finally getting BF2CC back into normal operation i'm not taking any unnecessary risks now because once it starts to play-up i'll be back to square one. Changing the Maplist (required to change Map Size) is one of the biggest causes of issues as well.

To be honest, right now i would appreciate if we could all focus on Wake as much as possible due to new competition here. We will be stepping up our efforts to increase server activity over the next few months, more information on this soon.
