BF2 #1 - Wake IslandQuestion about skill level VS game mods

I'll make this short, having a great time on Wake, but notice that I don't seem to be able to compete at the same level as most. when I'm in a tank, often one shot blows me up. I have an enemy in my sights and shoot for several seconds, the enemy turns and one shot and I'm dead. I never destroy a tank on the first shot, but when I am in a tank, often one shot gets me. Am I missing something other than skill confusedlol) I hear talk of mods and unlocks. I am playing with the basic game, nothing added. Does that put me at a disadvantage? Thanks for listening, just want to make sure I am on the same playing field (or battlefield) as everyone else. Could simply be some of you have "mad skills" that I may never have.

Aim for the tracks, you can blow a tank with 2 eryx or sraw if you hit the tracks, make sure you hit them and not the armour above though. Play Engineer so you can repair and see enemy mines, learn how to properly mine a tank as well, you just need 1 underneath the turret and it will blow as soon as someone gets in. Use the spanner on mines to pick them up as well, this can be your own, your teams or enemies.

If your tank has full health only a heli tv or 2 jet bombs will blow it in one go.

There are also some sick-os that can make a Tank Shell "bouce" and hit you twice. Some sort of sick glitch that the game has, and it's very hard to perform as far as I know. Actually I don't remember if this is part of Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 2142, but anyways I doubt it's used by lots of people to begin with. Just read 5tarLine's post carefully, lots of useful infos in there! wink

TL;DR

There are Tanks and Tankers. wink
That "I am in a tank, often one shot gets me.".. hmm.
Don't worry about "mods & unlocks". It is just the "basic game, nothing added".

Maybe you are interested in same old tanker-videos?

yeah, it is definitely possible to destroy a tank with full health with one shot by an enemy tank, i experienced that hundreds of times by myself. How it works? I dont know, simple luckshots

You must know, the skill level on our server is very high, we have many veterans with thousands of hours experience on our server...it is no mystery that beginners or casual gamer cant compete on the same level...don't worry, you will get better with time and then you are hunter smiling

Good points here, life as a tanker on wake Island is very dangerous indeed, tanks are an easy target for air vehicles, if one team dominates in air, its hard for a tank to survive long enough.

IMO awareness of your surroundings is the main aspect for improving your chances of staying alive. Always know or try to predict where your enemy is/could be. Use the map to your advantage, such as UAV, enemy spotting. Try to avoid open tank fights, but instead use different covers in battles. Ask commander for supply drop and position yourself nearby it whenever possible. Dont go into battles you know you cannot win o where you can get easily surrounded.

Thanks for the tips, the tanker video is very good. Just takes more time in the game, practice! When there are around 20 to 24 players in the game, I do pretty well. When the game is full, that's where my inexperience makes it almost impossible to play. I am always on my headset but find there are many who are not. This game is best when the entire squad is talking and the squad leader is truly leading. I have to laugh when I get in a helicopter in the second seat and I'm told to get out! I get it, I don't do that anymore........have good day, see you on the battlefield.

No one is allowed to tell you to get out of the heli on our Servers. If someone politely asks whether they can solo you can choose whether or not to accept their demands and take the heli another time but you by no means have to. If they want to solo, they can wait for the next heli and let you take it. The nice players will not worry about their K/D or score in a Public Server and actually try and help you learn how to fly and/or gun.

I'm ok in heli and could teach you a few things but we have some good heli players in [LS] who you could learn a lot from, just ask them and I'm sure they would be happy to help you.

There are some BF2-videos in the Multimedia-board too.
In that video there is some excellent tanking for example:

Without Practice/Experience you will never get better. So you have to hop in(to cold water).
That "get out" is probably done with the common-rose?
I get sometimes told too to get out. I have no Problem with that and handle it the best way for the team.
You can have situations where happily jumping into a Heli could be bad for the team, bad for the Power of that Weaponsystem.

Just use common sense. You know how effective you are. Communicate with your Pilot/Gunner.

True Story. And another Video posted here:

shows some Heli-Power, single-driven.

Cheers
