Battlefield 2BF2 Universal Launcher - Formerly: HDUI Project

So this is how I play BF2 and the way I have done for a long time now. It's simple and effective and makes a few nice changes to your game such as a HD Hud and the opportunity to mute "enemy spotted" spam from the commander/other players on your team plus a few other things.

It's very easy to install and will work with any BF2 installation, whether it's from an original copy of the game or the BF2 you downloaded and installed from Battlelog.co.

1] Add your Battlefield 2 Directory to your anti-virus exclusion list (Several anti-virus software packages will detect the file as a virus but it's not, it's just a false-positive, the file is 100% clean). My BF2 directory is: D:\Games\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 - Yours might be: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 - Just make sure this folder is not being monitored by your anti-virus! Here is mine as an example:

https://s31.postimg.org/6biodxz6j/eset.png

2] Download the ULauncher: http://ulauncher.tk/EN/downloads.html

3] Open the compressed file with a program such as Winrar

4] When prompted, enter the password: bf2

5] Extract ULauncher 2.0.exe to your BF2 directory "...\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"

6] Right click ULauncher 2.0.exe and make a Desktop Shortcut

7] Run ULauncher 2.0.exe / Open your new shortcut (same result obviously)

11] Click Start Game and login/play as you usually do

I'm keeping this brief / simple for now but will probably come back and tidy it up / add more info at some point. Let me know if you have any issues.

The original forum post with more detail/info is here: https://battlelog.co/post.php?id=13286

Cheers,

Are you sure it's not the AntiVirus messing up with it? As soon as I extracted the contents of ULauncher.7z into my Downloads, Avast wiped the .exe putting it into quarantine.

That's why 5tarLine neatly said to whitelist your BF2 folder and extract the archive there; smart one.

elangelvengador just follow the steps and move the ULauncher.7z in the BF2 folder; then do this: http://www.q-chem.com/...ite/doc_for_web/scr_1.jpg.

5tarLine, pal, one question for you: if I follow the steps and enable all of that, would those HD / mute changes stick even though I don't use ULauncher to boot the game? Would they stick?

Did you manage to fix this yet? If not, tell me which Antivirus you have and I can help you add the BF2 folder to exclusions.

Good question, I haven't actually tested this because my Battlelog launcher is outdated so it's a little difficult. I think you need to use the ULauncher for most of these or possibly all of the changes apart from the new menu music basically. Let me know if you find otherwise smiling

Oh, don't be surprised if it takes quite a long time to log in (in-game) after you open BF2, just wait/be patient.

This is the only negative thing I have to say about the ULauncher: it can take quite a long time to login to Battlelog Login Servers in BF2.

Just boot the BF2.exe and play a game; my question is: do you still get the HDUI and are the voice-overs muted, if you don't use the ULauncher to boot the game?

Pretty sure when i tried to boot BF2.exe the other night because ULauncher was temporarily disabled (something being updated by Air-Zen I guess) and tried to login, it told me I needed to update Battlelog Launcher so I don't think so.

Basically, ULauncher works by modifying memory directly which is why it can be used with any type of BF2 install and will work. I think therefore you will need to run it to get the benefits. I would test it for you but I don't want to risk messing something up by updating. My motto is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - So I'm afraid you'll have to test these things yourself mate smiling

Also, the cmdline file in which you place the mute enemy spotted / multi-core commands doesn't exist by default (as far as I know) in your BF2 installation directory. I had to create it for ULauncher to read the commands.

Now I think back, I'm pretty sure I tried this myself in the past and I realised you need to run BF2 through the ULauncher as I said above.

No problem, you're welcome smiling

If it works with the ULauncher see if you prefer the HD Hud and other options, maybe it's nicer to use that, depends what you prefer smiling

Is your Admin still working? If not you will need to change your BF2 CD-Key back to your REVI Key.

You're welcome bud! smiling
If you don't want to click "Login" everytime when you launch the game directly from BF2.exe, make a shortcut to BF2.exe and right-click it > Properties.

There should be a field called "Destination" (in English is "Target"), which should look like this by default: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe".

You have to change it like this, then "Apply" and finally click "Ok". This will log you in automatically and it will skip the inital movies too: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +fullscreen 1 +restart 1 +playerName elangelvengador +playerPassword YourPassword

Nope, I thought it didn't work without using the ULauncher though, is the HDUI still working with the Battlelog Launcher? smile

If so then that is great news because the ULauncher is currently in need of repair, it won't show any servers in the list, I have to connect with IP or Favourites...

No, unfortunately I have no idea as I don't use it.
My specs don't allow me to run the game on high so I'm sticking with the default GUI.

What I was liking the most was the mute feature; I really wanted to try BF2 with it. Excited

Yep the mute feature was interesting, I tried it but switched it off because I found the game spooky-quiet. The spam suppressor worked as intended, no enemy spotted sounds apart from when an enemy was actually spotted, so no attempts to spot.

Could you perhaps run the ULauncher, without the HDUI install and use the cmdline.txt with the -mute option to try it yourself?

Well I just found out that I was mistaken and hadn't heard about a new version of the ULauncher. Air-Zen just PMed me and I must say it's really nicely done, simple and very easy for the user to use different options. Also the login to the Battlelog network is much quicker than it used to be with the old version. Most importantly, the server list is showing up once again!

Trying all the different features is now much easier, just a click of your mouse button in the options before you boot the game.

It can be downloaded here if you are looking for it:
http://ulauncher.tk/

Just put it in your main BF2 Folder like before.

Tried yesterday to get HD UI working, but no dice.
Enabling it get's me kicked. 5starLine mentioned that I maybe could install the older version to get the HD thingy stick, but only older version I could find was HDUI1.4 and it's password protected. And it's not the default bf2 password.

Also I belive I noticed some lag/rubberband/stutter with multicore/thread enabled, but I will test more this weekend.

So if anyone have an idea how to get HD UI working I will be superhappy!

I will try to help you with it this weekend. On my old laptop the multicore didn't run so well either, I really don't think it's necessary to use this, you don't really need multicore to run an old game like this.

I'm surprised version 2.0 doesn't install the HD Hud by default. Are you sure it's not just your eyesight? smile (Sorry, couldn't help myself).

I'll ask Air-Zen what's going on.

--EDIT--
http://ulauncher.tk/EN/manual.html

Read the part about High-Definition UI. It won't let me copy it, selecting is disabled. So the HD UI also includes the HUD as far as I can tell, it's not just the menus.

If you read the part at the bottom of the page it will explain about modified content kicks. Unfortunately, what has been totally forgotten here is that PB is useless and nobody should use it anymore.

I think your best bet is going to be doing what I did and actually installing the HD Hud files with the old ULauncher.

There is a download link for the old ULauncher right at the bottom: https://drive.google.c...DX6_aAL4P7LTFqRFpySkdmUFU
pass = bf2

Can you put this in your BF2 main install directory. Then try and run it and click the install / install HDUI or something along those lines.

Hopefully this should do the trick.

If not we can ask for some support from Air-Zen.

I've emailed Air-Zen for you in any case:

Hi Air-Zen,

I hope you are well.

So a new member of my community would like to use the ULauncher. Unfortunately, he's having some trouble so I'm trying to help him,

Essentially, he would like the HD HUD but unfortunately he is getting kicked for modified content warnings. I am aware of the modified content information you provided on ulauncher.tk.
Unfortunately though, Punkbuster is useless these days for BF2 and Battlelog no longer includes PB by default with the launcher / BF2 install. For this reason I don't think anyone is going to switch off the modified content checks and use the PB MD5 alternative.

What this means is of course, he's getting kicked when he tries with the HD UI enabled.

My suggestion to him is to install the old launcher first because as far as I know, this one will manually install the HD HUD files to the BF2 install directory. Then he can run the new ULauncher and have the HD HUD without the need to use the HD UI option. Is this correct?

If not, could you please offer a different solution because we would still like these nice features on non-PB servers with the sv_consistency 1.

Cheers,

5tarLine

Fired up 2 sessions to compare. Not working as I described above.

It works if I use the old launcher and connect to server manually by adding ip and port. (No server list)

Damn that must mean I've been playing without the HD Hud recently and didn't realise since I upgraded to the new launcher. I guess i will go back to the old one and just connect with IP / Favourites unless Air-Zen can offer a better solution.

Will test myself as well when I get home to compare.

Hi there,

Is Ulauncher still a valid option nowadays on windows? It gives me a error: Nick is not in the database.. I was hoping to block out the 'enemy spotted' entirely.
Before putting energy in it to get it working. Is it allowed on ranked bf2 hub servers?

Anyone any ideas?

Edit: notify reply...

Well you got your reply from me on this in Discord Laugh

Be aware that it's forbidden to use the HD Render settings which cause the change to the Heli-Gunner's TV View in our servers as that is tantamount to cheating so will lead to a permanent ban.
