Battlefield 2Massive Jitter

Hi, sometime i get massive jitter when i play, making the game basically unplayable.
Ping is a bit high but usually still playable. Also on one game yesterday, I could not kill anyone. could not spot ennemies even tho i could clearly see them, it was acting like when you random spot.
I have a good internet connection, but it is not wirered. Can it be something else?
Thank you.

Switched to Wired connection, no change. Massive jitter and "there is a problem with your connection"

Where are you connecting from? Sometimes it's not the server's problem or the client's problem, but something in the middle is not performing well. Your route to our server is long and if one node in this route is acting up, your real-time gaming experience will suffer.

1. Where are you from and what's your ping on the Lost-Soldiers servers?
2. Have you tried on other game servers, and is it any different?
3. Try to go through a different internet connection, like a mobile carrier, to see if it makes any difference.
4. Try to re-do your tests from a different computer, if you have any, in order to exclude client-side problems (eg. auto updates)

EDIT: topic will be moved to Battlefield 2 Support board on your next reply, the URL will not change.

Well, later that night i decided to try pluggig directly to my cable modem, i restarted my computer and i checked bf2 and punkbuster to give them private acess to windows's firewall.
Everything was smooth as silk, What was actually the problem, i don't know, I'll retry with my wireless connection to see if it will jitter again.
Ping is high, around 150-180, i'm in montreal, Canada. I was playing the dragon valley's server.

Okay update us if you find anything new, though the route that you take from Canada to Amsterdam does not change depending on wifi/lan; what can change though is the quality of your connection to the router in your home. If for whatever reason that performs poorly (over wifi), you cannot expect a real time app (that works in the realm of milliseconds) to perform in tip-top shape now can you. smile

Kind regards,

You may have done this already but I run windows 10 with display setting to recommended 3840x2160. I too had high ping and the screen was playing catch up, making it virtually unplayable. Did some searching and tweaking and cured it. The game and graphics card were working overtime and causing everything to lag in game.
What I did was run BF2 in Windows XP mode then reduce screen size to 1920x1080 for my desktop.
In game I did the same using 60hz refresh rate. Game runs great now with 100fps.

Also some game tweaks you could try:
Terrain=Med. Medium to High makes no difference. Med save overworking Gpu.
Effects=Med. High makes no difference. Low will improve Fps.
Geometry=High. Reducing to Med or Low improves performance.
Texture=Med. Dependant on your pc ram.
Lighting=Med. High can cause graphic loading delays, milliseconds but in this game it all counts.
Dynamic shadows=Off. Med or Low is ok but you can see hidden enemy better if shadows are off.
Dynamic lighting=Med. High can contribute greatly to pauses, lag and jerkiness in the game.
Antialiasing=Off. Jus smooths the edges of items in game. Your choice really but for older systems Off works better.
Texture filter=Med. Once again it is Pc dependant. Good new pc then use high older units Med to Low.
View distance 100%. Well goes without saying, distance is everything to a sniper.

These are the settings I use and the game runs really well and my Pc is no slouch.

Hope this helps anyone who has similar issues.

Good luck
Brewedinbritain.

Having the same Problem, massive Jitter and Rubberbanding, especially in close combat and with a lot of enemies in direct vicinity, game basically becomes unplayable in these situations. I am just jittering and rubberbanding all over the screen and suddenly I am dead (naturally). Sometimes this coincides with a peak in Ping, but often my ping stays low, between 15 and 50, which in comparison to a lot of others players is actually quite low. It's usually within this ballpark.
Did a bit of research around it already and actually Italy S_h_a_r_k_93 collected some solution suggestions already back in the day on battlelog.co. Will dig them out again and might post them here, along with some other suggestions I found.
Will also test on my system and then give some feedback on it.
It is definitaly a troublesome issue =/.

Btw, getting the "there's a problem with your connection" also from time to time, sometimes with a server disconnect. Not so much on Lost-Soldiers servers though.

Regarding Shark's input so far:

1. Where are you from and what's your ping on the Lost-Soldiers servers? Am from Germany, ping is usually between 15 and 70 on L-S
2. Have you tried on other game servers, and is it any different? Yes, not too big of a difference. I am playing a lot on Super@ Servers, because they often have more traffic around the time I am able to play.
3. Try to go through a different internet connection, like a mobile carrier, to see if it makes any difference. Didnt make a difference. Ordered a new LAN-cable now, cuz I don't have one at hand at the moment, will see whether cable-connection to router makes a difference.
4. Try to re-do your tests from a different computer, if you have any, in order to exclude client-side problems (eg. auto updates)
Aside from this system, I only have Mac-Systems, so no real chance to evaluate this.

Thx for the valuabel input so far, Shark!
I found some older posts from you and also some more on all kind of Forums (problem seems to be well-known), just have to dig deeper into it.
Hope this post is therefore not premature, just wanted to share already with others experiencing similar issues.

And some suggestions here:

And some input here, even though with no direct solution, but maybe a path to the problem:

Ok, just wanna report that using cable connection to Router insteaf of WiFi did the job to a certain degree. Still have some "there is a problem with your connection" coming up, but all in all it's way better now.
So that would indeed be a tipp from my end, although I know it doesn't help everybody.
Cheers

Manekk has posted in our Forums too, particularly we were trying to figure out another known problem: stutter or input lag

Regarding this topic's issue though, I've read your bigger reply and the first thing that I wanted to know was if that sluggishness that you notice in big close-quarters cluster-fucks can be experienced in Singlepayer as well.

Putting the "there is a problem with your connection" Multiplayer error aside for a moment, it would be interesting to know whether the machine has some fault into this sluggishness (by playing Singleplayer you remove the network aspect entirely)...

... or if it's otherwise all attributable to anything taking part to the network pipeline (so starting from your own Computer's network card, down to the medium that connects you to your Router, finally to the Internet Service Provider).

Manekk speaks about interpolation in the Discourse page you linked (by the way the WTFast page is also interesting, I know that service since battlelog but I don't recall seeing that page before) so, if this close-quarters bad user experience is not reproducible at all in Singleplayer, perhaps you could try to customize your Usersettings.con file to match your average ping.

[toggle=Digression about Usersettings.con and my own (bad) bf2 hit registration experience]It's a file in the game directory, that models lag compensation, interpolation and extrapolation, but the fact of the matter is that it has default values that made sense with the network capabilities of 15 years ago, when the game was released.

Personally I've always had average to bad internet connections, but even when upgrading them I would still experience my bullets not connecting to an enemy (especially with moving targets), enemies killing me instantly instead or worse, killing me after I took cover by ducking or by running behind a corner...

I'm not the best player I know, but I'm not the worst either, so these issues about bad network hit registration negatively influence my gaming experience, especially when I feel that "damn my aim was on point but I still missed" or "uff, I reacted in time to the enemy shooting me, took cover, but I still got killed as if the bullet curves like in the Wanted movie and reaches me behind the corner too".[/toggle]
